How can we not be bitter when the well is poisoned?

A year of atrocities, a year of ceaseless bombing, now spreading to Lebanon, seamlessly, effortlessly, as we shield behind our screens, helpless and nauteous, living at the speed of a deathscroll. Falling in and out of time, at a bar so low, that all barometers fail; not even a single air particle moves in this sub-pit.

As a label indefinitely "on hold", it is no longer clear what the role of publishing work is, when it becomes the backdrop for a genocide. Chill beats for genociding? Or chill beats for looking away from a genocide? Chill beats for restoration? And yet our minor social (media) interventions through out this past year have been marked by a certain bitterness for that now dead world and its monstrous resurrection, sown and patched up before our eyes. Our bleeding eyes.

Hence, the conundrum: how to keep sowing seeds on a land so dry? How to keep walking, when the oasis mirage keeps getting further and further away with every step? And finally, in walking towards it, how can we not be bitter when the well is poisoned?

We sincerely hope to be back soon in some form and capacity. by @moneda_._

BUILD YOUR OWN CURRENCY SYNTHESIZER
Saturday May 25th, 10:30am-6pm at Yalla, Nicosia.
SIGN-UP sheet link in bio.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE is a synthesizer workshop run by Rhea Dally ( @rheadally )that makes use of coins as tangible points of conductivity that reconfigure the internal circuit of a synthesizer. Following the economic collapse and power outages in Lebanon, Rhea Dally began using coins and relating to materials in a different way, by looking for ways to repurpose currency and its material devaluation, hacking its use value, and ultimately giving new meanings to notions already found in electric circuits, such as: resistance, circulation and power.

In this spirit, CURRENCY EXCHANGE invites attendees to rethink exchange values by resisting the commodification of social relations and the devaluation of the objects that mediate them. As such, this day workshop welcomes and is open to everyone, at ALL levels and experiences with electronics, from total beginners to more advanced users, and with a suggested fee of 15-30EU, depending on your circumstances. From each according to their ability to each according to their needs, as they say! If this falls outside your affordable range, please dm us!

Rhea Dally, based in Lebanon, is an improvising noise artist and instrument maker, with a focus on hacking and a commitment to the DIY principles.

NOTE: Friday Artist Talk has been moved to Saturday!

Some screenshots from recent Numismatic performance talk by Emiddio Vasquez at @yalla_lefkosia and @polyxoros_synergeio in relation to the screening of The Broken Pitcher and ahead of official release of its album.

Admittedly, an attempt to break from the label's hiatus given the current circumstances where releasing work feels most vain and in vain, the performance engaged in a historical materialist navigation of numismatics, taken as literally as possible: the science or study of coins. Numismatics, derived from "νόμισμα", as opinions or whims, stresses the paradoxes of such science.

Looking at two further meanings of Moneda, memory and protection, the talk weaved narratives and participatory circulation by looking at what is embedded in the very materiality of coins, its symbolic currency, its mode of validation, value abstraction, and an ongoing move towards security issues surrounding counterfeits and alternative digital currencies. All themes were framed by an attempt to acquire a 1927 Palestine coin and a subsequent reflection on home keys held by Nakba survirors.

More soon, we hope. by @moneda_._

Thanks for joining us for our 5Y anniversary, even with such a late notice and given the turmoil we found ourselves in the last days.

We'd like to believe that the sonic and aesthetic bonds built through out our records, events, parties etc helped build a greater sense of community and found their way out in the streets, when collective resistance is most needed.

A lot has happened in the last 5 years, & there's a lot to look back and reflect upon which is why we also plan to put a pause on things (once we finish already lined up releases). But we hope that saturday night (and recent performances) created some sort of lasting memories that will materialize in direct action and persist beyond the airsprayed ink on our culty shirts.

We still have a few t-shirts left, please DM if you'd like one.

Thanks @tapperbar for hosting us, @elektroniki for the cake, and all the artists involved.
