Fantastic four In a forest like Ranthambore, where dominant males wander without warning and territories shift overnight, raising one cub is already a feat. Durga is raising four.She does it with instinct sharpened over years, with patience that is almost impossible to witness without feeling something. Every time she leaves for a hunt or to mark her ground, she hides them — each one — before she goes. She knows what’s out there. She’s survived it.The cubs, for their part, follow. They watch. They learn. There’s something quietly beautiful about that — a mother the forest has tested, passing that knowledge down without a word.Our second morning safari was entirely theirs. We didn’t move, didn’t chase anything else. Just stayed, watched, and let the light change around them.Every expedition we do in the wild comes with a target. Sometimes the hardest call is walking away from a tiger in front of you to go find one that hasn’t been seen yet. That’s not luck — that’s reading the forest. Knowing when to stay and when to move.
