Part three of our series on left hand development for the cello! Technique refers to the way that our body moves with the instrument to create sound. Good, relaxed technique is important to avoid injury, efficiency, and to create a beautiful sound.

Today, cellist and educator Susan Lindemann (@susan.c.l) explains an exercise that supports relaxed left technique. Susan Lindemann specializes in helping beginner cellists develop strong fundamentals that support long-term growth.

If you are interested in learning the cello, you can schedule a free consultation to see if our studio is the right fit for you! Our studio is fully online, and our approach is specialized to the digital format.

Technique is how we move with our instrument to create good sound! It’s important to be relaxed when we play- relaxed movements allow better sound and help players avoid physical injury. Since our studio is fully online, we need a creative approach to help our students build healthy technique from day 1! Today, @susan.c.l explains one approach for complete beginners: pushing down the string of the cello entirely without the thumb. This approach ensures that students have a supported setup, and that their left hand isn’t accidentally “holding up” the cello (this creates tension!)

If you want to learn the cello, visit our Monkey Praxis studio website! We offer free consultations to make sure that you are matched with an educator who best fits YOUR needs. Our approach is specialized to the digital format to help students build strong technique from day one. We work with both adults and younger students!

Welcome to the page of Monkey Praxis Studios! We are a collective of artists and educators dedicated to sharing our craft with others.

Today’s video features one of our cello educators @amanita_all_at_once , SHREDDING on “Frippitona”. This improvisational piece was composed by @pecata.mundi our piano and composition educator. “Frippitona” is inspired by the works of the great @robertfrippofficial , and features odd meters.

Also playing in today’s video is @pecata.mundi on Melodica, and @susan.c.l on piano. If you want to hear more of our work, follow along! For those interested in playing music like this or studying with Amani, visit our Monkey Praxis studio website to get in touch :)

Welcome to the page of Monkey Praxis Studios! We are a collective of artists and educators dedicated to sharing our craft with others. Our teaching studio is fully online!

Today, @susan.c.l shares the pros and cons of learning with or without tapes. Cello tapes are pieces of colorful tape placed on the fingerboard to mark where the notes are! This is a helpful resource for beginners to find where to place their fingers! On the other hand, students who learn without tapes have to rely on their ears to find and tune notes. This is an important skill to build long term, so practicing this from day one is an excellent way to build aural skills fast!

Both methods have their pros and cons- but which method worked best for you?

If you are interested in learning the cello, visit our Monkey Praxis studio website to get in touch! Our studio is fully online, and our teaching method is specialized to the digital format. We offer free consultations to make sure that our studio is the right fit for you, and to get you connected with an educator who best fits your needs!

We are Monkey Praxis Studios, a collective of creative musicians and educators dedicated to sharing our craft with others! Our most recent project involves the development of Maria Optimus, a @dolby Atmos immersive audio system that brings sound to the third dimension. Most music is mixed in stereo, where you listen from two outputs- a left and right side. Maria Optimus has TWELVE outputs, and each speaker plays something different. This creates a three-dimensional sonic texture that changes and adapts as the listener moves through the space.

@franco_galetto is our audio engineer, and he specializes in mixing audio for this immersive format! Over an intensive week of trial and error, he wrangled the powers of Maria Optimus into a comprehensive sonic experience.

If you are interested in learning more about three dimensional sound, follow along! If you are an artist who wants to learn how to make their music three dimensional, visit our website! We are now accepting students into our audio engineering mentorship program 🎶
