I will never forget the day this adventure began. It was on November 7, 2024. I know that because I looked through thousands of our texts to find the conversation. 😂 You were in New York for work and you told me about plans to attend a show later that evening at Red Pavilion in Brooklyn. You shared a link, and the moment I saw the venue, I immediately asked, “Is this going inspire you to get back on stage?” Your reply? “Who knows!?” Two days later, the vision for your show, Lullaby of Birdland - A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, started to take shape. A week and a half after that, you pitched it. And less than a year of preparation later, a packed house full of your friends, colleagues, and adoring fans watched your return to the stage. We all escaped into a world of your design for a few hours, and it was truly magical. Your performance was incredible - Honest and authentic and full of your signature brand of artistry. When you sing, I hear echoes of every version of you, and through any season you are a force of nature. I cannot overstate what a joy it is to see you shine so brightly in your greatness. Setting goals, making your art, and doing it all so beautifully. Thank you for sharing your dreams with the world and showing us all what’s possible. We need it now more than ever. I love you and I am so proud of you, henny. You’re a star. Celebrated all the moments, big and small. Created something from nothing and did what I said I would. Made a lot of coffee and enjoyed slow mornings in our kitchen. Worked too much from everywhere. Will have to fix that. Wrote a lot and threw some clay in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Added Taco Tuesday Canlas Eddy to our family. Drove out to the desert and stared into space. Danced under the stars on a warm summer night. Spent more time outside in general. Heard Lupe speak the words from my headphones in real life. Spent another 365 days with my favorite person. 10 out of 10. No notes. #2024 by @monthbeforemay

The friendship gods truly blessed me the day you came dancing into my orbit (in either a pair of fuzzy house slippers or your tallest stiletto heels, I can't remember which) and life has been exponentially more wonderful since. You are a woman of many contrasts, and infinitely layered. You are equally full of wisdom and wicked humor. You are frugal and fancy. You are as kind as you are beautiful. You are nurturing and direct. If the cards you were dealt in the first act of your life have required you to be a force of nature outfitted in a shell of armor, I hope the continuation of your story is just as filled with softness, laughter, safety, security, unconditional love, and ease.
