Okay, here we go. Books that have been languishing on the master classics #physicaltbrstack for a few years, books that I started but realized halfway through that the mood was off, books that I meant to read last yearβ€”these are the twelve high priority picks for 2026. I will fight my inner #moodreader to make this happen. Thank you so much for this tag & very doable challenge for my upcoming busy year, Pia @bibliolyra β€”I’m motivated, like this stack was all ready to go before you even tagged me (btw thanks for not making it 26 in 26 lol). 2025 was the year I finally completed all of Jane Austen’s novels (looking at you, MP); 2026 is for Charlotte Brontë & the long-anticipated Wolf Crawl. β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

β€œIt is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” - #prideandprejudice #janeausten

How many of us have that quote locked & sealed in our hearts? Happy #prideandprejudiceday fellow book lovers! I promised to share my absolute favorite Christmas present from my fiancé & now my most prized possession in my home library: the British Library’s Deluxe Facsimile of Austen’s 1813 Pride and Prejudice, First Edition published in three volumes. Ngl I cried when the wrappings came away to reveal this beauty, which includes an introduction booklet by Head Curator Lesley Ruthven & a special compartment with reproductions of Austen’s personal letters & other ephemera. β€”β€œIn vain have I struggled. I finally have my English translation copy of Tove Jansson’s The Hobbit! I've been so impatient to receive it ever since the release & it's finally here! *deep breath* Whenever my mind alights on thoughts of Tove, I take a pause & glance around me; a similar thing happens with Mary Oliver. I will always need Tove in my life, my companionable reminder to stop clinging to moments & live them, fully, then let them go freely. β€œYou must habit yourself to the dazzle of the light and of every moment of your life.” - Walt Whitman

β€œThere is a madness born of too much light, and Whitman was not after madness nor even recklessness, but the tranquility of affinity and function. He was after a joyfulness...” - Mary Oliver

I’ve been hanging out with the proto-modernist poets lately, & Mary Oliver, too, always. Now, I'm attempting to do a seasonal shift from my summer loafe to autumn Victoriana, but Whitman is ubiquitous & possessive & avuncular in the best sense, so it appears I'm doing poetry this fall as well. We’re entering my favorite season & I’m always down for a Victorian lit book haul. I might try to hit all the prompts this year, including the bonus & excepting the group read. Just loving all the recs on Discord at the moment, especially the essays & poetryβ€”& a libretto?! What are you reading for Victober? β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

So, yeah. Lol I’ve been missing for a bit, haven’t I? I had to visit fam last week & decided to make it a fun trip with a Disney stop. I’m surprised by how much I was able to read through the park; never tracked it before & thought this was a good opportunity. Always bring a book in case you screw up with Lightning Lanes lol. (Who still calls it Fastpass? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ) I just love pumpkin season at MK & this was a pleasant, relaxing stay: a few of my favorite slow rides, delicious seasonal treats, then all the (secret) chill spots to read. First, dropped by Downtown Disney to see if they're still selling Lorcana boosters, but no. There is no Lorcana anywhere in the parks. Is Disney just giving up on it? Stopped at Beignets Expressed to sob into some doughy powdered sugary goodness for a while. 😭

I thought it was pretty great actually lol just me sitting & reading in a boatβ€”next to a talking parrot & some pirate booty. πŸ¦œπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ

Tom Sawyer’s Island, which I think was THE part of the park that Walt Disney designed himself, is like an idyllic getaway in the middle of a busy thoroughfare. (& there's never a line for bathrooms.) I took a quiet stroll through some caves, then sat next to some real ducks & fake moose to read a couple chapters from my book. πŸ¦†πŸ“–πŸŒΏ

Haunted Mansion always stalls every single time I ride it lol. It never fails (the irony). I knew I would get some reading done on this one. I looove the Nightmare Before Christmas holiday decorations. πŸŽƒπŸ‘»πŸ’€

The 7 Greens Gumbo with Chicken & Andouille Sausage at Tiana’s Palace is my new go-to for lunch at MK. Also, the Buttermilk Cornbread omg 🀀

β€œI am the servant of the sword,” he said. β€œI obey the will of theβ€”great god, woman, put on some clothes!” - Swordheart by T. Kingfisher

I’m smitten & I cannot wait to get sucked into The World of the White Rat. Finally stepping into my medieval fantasy era & I need a sword, preferably sentient with a dry wit. This is exactly what I needed after Anne Boleyn lost her head at the end of Mantel’s Bring Up the Bodies. (If that’s a spoiler, sorry, butβ€”really?) It was physically impossible for me to stay still & quiet while reading both Swordheart & Daggerbound: I was unhinged, loves, grinning & cackling & 𝑀𝑖𝑔𝑔𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 wtf kicking my feet the whole way through in private & in public. Destructive reader mode & no one was safe. I’m hungover & disoriented by the mood swing from Thomas Cromwell to giant pill bugs that only look scary but are really the sweetest bookworms you’ll ever meet in a swamp. I’m crushing hard, friends. I just want T. Kingfisher to talk at me about myrmecochory & its potential applications in the field of espionage. β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

β€œOld Tom Bombadil was a merry fellow; / bright blue his jacket was and his boots were yellow, / green were his girdle and his breeches all of leather; / he wore in his tall hat a swan-wing feather. / He lived up under Hill, where the Withywindle / ran from a grassy well down into the dingle.” - The Adventures of Tom Bombadil by JRR Tolkien

Me when I set up this bookish photo shoot with Howl & Sophie: hurry hurry oh crap hurry before Howl finishes chewing the stick & sees the books! Lol it’s a race against Howl’s incisors every single time. We don’t worry about Sophie: she no longer has her incisors. T-T

It’s been a bit since I’ve featured these two buns on my page, so here they are along with two Tolkien poetry books that I’m eager to sink π‘šπ‘¦ teeth into, maybe this winter if I can manage. Tom Bombadil has been waiting on me for a few years. β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

β€œWyatt says, β€˜I hear Henry wants an annulment too. To kill her and be divorced from her, all in one day. That is how she is, you see. Everything is ruled by extremes. She would not be his mistress, she must be queen of England; so there is breaking of faith and making of laws, so the country is set in an uproar. If he had such trouble to get her, what must it cost him to be rid? Even after she is dead, he had better make sure to nail her down.’” - Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel

If there is such a thing as Purgatory, it would be poetic justice for Henry VIII, Thomas Cromwell, et al. to hang in it for all eternity: forever in the hope of salvation with the awareness that they'll never be clean enough. Tug on my sympathies all you want, Mantel, & I will gobble up the words like cake & still call for the heads of King Littleprick & all his men. Henry VIII dying a fat, smelly man with soresβ€”witches can do better.

I like that last line, spoken by poet Thomas Wyatt as he bided his time in the Tower on Cromwell's orders, as a segue into Laine’s fantasy reimagining of β€œheretic queen” Anne Boleyn’s witchery after death: β€œbetter make sure to nail her down.” Or she'll resurrect herself & hatch a revenge plot to put Thomas Cromwell to shame. If only. (If only I didn't have to suspend sm of my disbelief: Anne Boleyn conspiring with Katherine of Aragon? πŸ‘€)

Mantel makes such a convincing argument, but I'm siding with the witches, & now for The Mirror & the Light. β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

I saw Rebecca @rebeccasreads_ do this a while ago, so here are my book(ish) photos from the days before my tbr outgrew my reading journal & moved onto goodreads (then storygraph, then fable, then pagebound), before I knew what a bookish flatlay was, before I discovered that all my shopping sprees were actually called book hauls. Before I settled into classics, my open dalliance with other genres, I was already into bookish travel & little free libraries, taking snapshots of quotes & coffee with my current reads. When I tumbled into bookstagram via a literal Lewis Carroll white rabbit hole (i.e., saw a post about someone’s special edition copy of Through the Looking-Glass & followed all the tags), I fell into this wonderland &, excepting the occasional posting slump, never left. πŸ‡πŸ•³ β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

This will probably be the final book confession in this mini-series. I’ve reached a point in my life where the only YA I read are the cozy rereads I grew up lovingβ€”& this was a startling realization for me. You won’t find me perusing the YA section at the bookstore these days: holding hands just doesn’t cut it anymore lol. I’m a bit sentimental & melancholy about it, but there are too many books on my tbr for me to mope about for long. I guess if a really, π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘Žπ‘™π‘™π‘¦ good worth-the-hype YA series pops up in my future, I might check it out, but for now I’m giving a nod to my young adulthood & saying farewell to the genre *tears* it’s been fun. β™‘ π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘™π‘Žπ‘›π‘–

ps On that note, feel free to spam me with all your YA recs. :)
