YO 🦋 I CANT BELIEVE I MADE IT TO 33! Thank you to everyone who celebrated with me and made me feel so special. My Nana was promoted to an ancestor on Wednesday. My two favorite people in this entire universe are only accessible in spirit form 😔💔

My grandparents have owned their house on Franklin for DECADES — and from those decades came many generations that would bring life to many more decades. Shout out to one of our neighbors for putting a balloon on the stoop for my Nana. She really was everybody’s Nana.

💖 HOOD HOUSE, a house music tribute to the Black radical tradition by @hoodschoolnyc @houseisliberation, raised $3,022 on 8/9! here are our receipts :)

❤️‍🔥 with this communal dance & house event we’re really tryna.. burn the current system to ashes & replace it with a new liberated world! we intend: to foster deep and purposeful bonds with eachother; to connect and study intergenerationally; to free our selves; to practice organization; to build a liberated world right now as there is no need or time to wait; and to sustain ourselves and survive in the meantime 💸. let’s stay connected ☺️

$604.40 went to Kamau Sadiki, the last new york Black Panther still in prison for their political activities, the last of three Panthers held captive nationwide. they sacrificed for us, now we wanna pay it back, and always be caring for our movement. the money is used to care for Kamau while in prison, and to pay for housing, healthcare, and food once he gets out.

$604.40 went to GOVA (Group Village Organizations for Autonomous Development) in the Congo. without capitalist extraction of the Congo’s minerals, we would not have these phones. the world imperialist powers — amerika, china, russia, etc — are exploiting the Congolese people to death. the Congo has also been a deeply important site for Pan African and internationalist struggle. GOVA is a network of hundreds of autonomous villages in rural areas co-founded by Samuel Yagase. their current projects include ebola education and prevention; books for two community libraries; community radios; and Congo River environmental efforts. they also engage young people to talk about imperialism, mining and extraction, and people power.

$604.40 went to Fight 2 Live, which organizes financial and community support to our queer & trans siblings behind bars.

$604.40 went to the Jericho Movement, the political prisoner freedom organization founded in 1998 by Safiya Bukhari, Jalil Muntaqim, and Herman Ferguson.

lastly, $604.40 went to the Anarchist Group in Sudan. see slides for info~

hood house: on 8/9, we raised $3K for our elder, Black Panther political prisoner Kamau Sadiki; anarchist resistance in Sudan; the community led GOVA project in The Congo; and our queer + trans family behind bars with F2L @fund_the_inside (receipts soon!). just sharing some more clips of @moonbabe3000 ’s dance floor; our backyard that had the radical elders oral histories & archiving; and @saint.404’s beautiful table!!

we were blessed to have our young people and our elders, and our millenials in-between, all together, dancing, DJing, building the altar, reading… it was a very special harlem/uptown x hoodschool x houseisliberation collab :)

As this month asks us to recall the history of militant struggle in the prison and beyond, we draw on the spirit of revolutionary and culture worker June Jordan whose vision pushes us to struggle across divides. At this month’s Salon, you’ll have space to hear from Black Power era elders, to catch a groove on the dance floor pumping house music and we’ll break bread in community, share poetry, politics and workshops all to uplift the liberation of Political Prisoners, Congo and Sudan!
