This is 2L. ⚖️
It took a lot for me to get here. Last year, I quit my job and went back to school and it’s been the journey of lifetime already. I’ve grown exponentially with so much more growth to come. When I think about last year, today, I was scared out of my mind. I went home and I thought, “Do I have to go back tomorrow?” There was no way these people let me in… As first gen college/graduate student, I was used to breaking barriers but nothing had prepared me for law school. I’ll be honest… you can’t pay me to do 1L (first year) again. I’ll be dammed. 😮‍💨 But, I’m grateful I never gave up and I pushed through.

Today, is my 23rd first day of school, and I am proud of myself. I’m proud to be here and proud to be on my way. These pics are just proof of life. Proof of growth. 🌱

A classmate asked me today… “Why are you dressed up?…You got an interview?” My response: “I’m a Black man in law school… Dassit.”

It ain’t that many of us and I’m proud to be one.

21 years ago today, my life changed forever.

Growing up without a mama requires you to learn a whole different way of thinking, living, and becoming.

Truth is, to this day, I wished I had my momma, still wish there were milestones she could see. Still questions I wish I could ask. Still a version of me that wonders who I would be if I had gotten more time with her.

21 years later, and it still hurts.
Somehow, I continue to keep going.
