✨Book Review✨
The Mad Wife by Meagan Church
Personal Rating: 4.25⭐️

In a world of where sticking to your weekly cleaning schedule and hosting dinner with an an amazing award winning Jello is considered trophy wife material, Lulu has to wonder why she still doesn’t feel like everything she hoped for in motherhood has turned out the way she expected. Is that really all there is to marital bliss?

This book grabbed me right in from the beginning and led me on a path that was not expected. I was surprised to see a few mixed reviews about this novel. But realizing that the story has been heavily marketed as a thriller of sorts, is probably where the problem lies. I definitely feel it its true strength resides in the fact that it historically shows life for women in the 1950s and the consequences of being labeled as a “hysterical woman”.

It was shocking to go down the rabbit hole of mental health for women at that time. Terms like “Housewife Syndrome” and prescriptions for “Happy Pills” to be just a couple of the sad and unsettling things that women encountered.

It makes me completely grateful for the advances in modern medicine and understanding that has transpired over the last 75 years.

✨Book Review✨
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
Personal Rating: 4.75⭐️

You guys, I could not put this book down! I picked this novel up due to a friend’s recommendation. It was a trippy rush of non-stop action, fascinating what-ifs, and surprisingly a touch of romance.

Right from the beginning the story hooks readers with the main character finding himself in an alternate version of his life without knowing why or how he ended up there. Are his memories real? Or is this new reality actually accurate?

There is a bit of sci-fi mixed into the plot, but the author makes it understandable and also straightforward enough that it doesn’t distract from the plot.

I loved that the book also makes readers think about what real happiness looks like and how the choices in our lives shape us as individuals.

Personal Note: My only wish was that the language wasn’t so strong. I found myself debating about DNFing the book more than once due to the amount of f-words (definitely not my thing!). But I HAD to know what happened. For better or worse, it definitely ended up being a guilty pleasure for me.
