Looks like i’m going on the air at 11pm tonight with @rtrfm - details here: Surprise! You're Alive Episode 4 - Hosted by Dimity & Nathan Part of Midnight Special. Re-stream here: https://rtrfm.com.au/shows/midnightspecial/ The project where we discuss what consciousness might be with Scientists, Philosophers, Musicians, Artists and everyone in-between. Pre-recorded interview is with world reknowned New York times Bestselling, Award winning, Harvard trained and published Neuroanatomist Dr Jill Bolte Taylor (US). Dr Taylor talks with us about how she thinks consciousness works from a scientific, theoretical, physiological and philosophical point of view and offers up her latest book Whole Brain Living. Live banter and tunes from our guests Hayley Beth is a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Boorloo, WA, who is known for her big voice and weird banter. She plays solo and as one half of the doom-synth duo, HEEBIEJEEBIES. Hayley is also studying Honours in Psychology at the moment and has a keen interest in all things BRAINS. Mike Bianco is an artist, curator, researcher, activist, cook, and beekeeper. Bianco’s art practice is invested in socially engaged art and interspecies hospitality. When he’s not exhibiting his work internationally, Mike can be found cooking up a feast for his friends at his country home in York, Western Australia. And we showcase poet Sanna Peden is a reader and writer with a background in film studies and cultural history. She has an activist streak and a particular fascination with the odd, weird, sad and speculative. A fantastic conversation yesterday with @rebecca_giggs about her new (and first) book #fathoms I think we all felt very lucky to be gathered as bodies in space, even with social distancing. #Repost @rebecca_giggs with @make_repost @perthfest ・・・ First ever live-event for Fathoms — ten months after the book’s release — as part of Perth Literature Weekend (albeit with a COVID-spaced audience). ・・・・・・ by @morethanhumanstudio
Rest in power Wayne. #Repost @art21 with @make_repost ・・・ Bruce Nauman reflects on Wayne Thiebaud’s teachings. “A good teacher is like a good artist,” says Bruce Nauman in our “Extended Play” film. “They go right to the most difficult part of whatever's going on.” “When I was in school, Wayne Thiebaud was teaching and I was his teaching assistant— and that’s what Wayne did, he showed you how to pay attention to what you were doing—what was out there. And that's… I think it’s a rare, rare thing, you know.” Bruce Nauman finds inspiration in the activities, speech, and materials of everyday life. Working in sculpture, video, film, printmaking, performance, and installation, Nauman concentrates less on the development of a characteristic style and more on the way in which a process or activity can transform or become a work of art. I’m sending a new hive-based work to @central_curator and the @adelaidecentralschool for their upcoming benefit exhibition Wish You Were Here 2020. From the curator, Andrew Purvis “The proceeds from Wish You Were Here 2020 will be used to provide further scholarship support for the school’s most outstanding students. This financial boost enables talented students to enjoy one of the best visual arts educations in the country. Scholarships facilitate the purchase of essential study equipment, subsidise students’ living expenses, and enable them to fully focus on their studies. In light of proposed Federal Government changes to higher education, it is vital that we do what we can to ensure that a quality visual arts education remains an aspiration for the many, not the few. Adelaide Central School of Art is a not-for-profit organisation, and Australia’s only wholly independent art school. The school does not receive any recurrent State or Federal Government funding. For the third year in a row, the School was identified as the best art school in Australia for student experience, according to the latest national Student Experience Survey (SES) findings (released in March 2020).” Wish You Were Here 2020 will be on view from Saturday 7 November – Friday 20 November 2020.
