The beads glow in the dark AND the handle doubles as a flashlight.

A little vintage Halloween, a little extra whimsy, and a much more fun way to trick-or-treat.

A few tips:
- sharpie worked great to over line the face and fill in missing black
- shade everything with sharpie before lining over top with the acrylic paint marker. It stuck better. Then layer it
- clear coat with UV resistant. Cover the handle with a plastic bag before spraying to protect it
- evenly space out the extra fairy light slack at the end on the handle for extra light
- make sure to place the light button with extra slack inside the bucket first before wrapping the beads around the handle for easy turning on and off

I keep thinking I’d rather make our house a little more magical for the kids who live here now than worry about what some hypothetical future buyer might think someday, which is how I ended up wanting to paint all these tiny hidden details around the house for them to discover.

“Details” and I’ll send the projector your way

The only problem is having the vision and being able to actually draw it are two very different things. So I used the Aurzen ZIP Pro to project each design exactly where I wanted it, trace it, and then paint it in. It basically made all of these doable without needing to be an artist.

The tri-fold design becomes its own adjustable stand, which was especially helpful because I kept moving from spot to spot and putting these in some pretty odd little corners. And since it has a built-in battery, I could just pick it up, reposition it, and keep going without dragging cords around the house. It’s also Full HD, so I could still see the little details clearly enough to trace while changing the size and placement of each design.

Make sure to take the picture even if you already started school or you’re just about to! The memory is always worth it and this set up was so easy

“School time” for the supply list sent your way

- painted left over plywood to look like notebook paper. This was reused from last year along with the garland

- gold arch and green craft paper. Lay the arch on the craft paper. Trace the inside of the arch onto the craft paper and cut it out. Hole punch along the edges and tie it onto the gold arch with a ribbon of choice

- use a projector or freehand a chalkboard inspired painting on the craft paper for the background

- yellow and pink pool noodles with gray duct tape and brown paper for a giant pencil

- led strip lights: use clear duct tape to stick it on the wall. Lights can be synced to music which makes it so much more fun!

If you came from part I or part II the crazy cat room is finally complete!! The best things in her room didn’t come from big box stores and that may be the best part.

Honestly, turning all of those little ideas into real pieces was way easier than I expected.

We sat together scrolling through the Bambu Handy app looking for ideas. With over 2 million models to choose from, every time she found something she loved, we’d pick a filament color, hit print, and watch it come to life with the Bambu Lab P2S.

One feature I especially appreciate in our house is the enclosed design. With kids running around, it gives me a lot more peace of mind while it’s printing.

One of the easiest set ups we’ve created and all with scraps around the house 📚

-paint a leftover sheet of plywood white

- take any cheap projector and find a notebook page on canva to project onto the plywood

-add balloon garland. Target has a bunch of cheap back to school options right now as many do I’m sure!

-use command hooks and long 360 balloons to attach to the wall

- find a pendant at the dollar spot, make one, use their backpack or get creative if you want simple props!

Part II: Your kids won’t remember your resale value.

They’ll remember the room that was made just for them.

Now to find out if painting the cats was worth saving the $700 in wallpaper!

I almost talked myself into changing these cats a hundred more times, but once the rest of the room started coming together, everything finally clicked.

The mural is done… but wait until you see the finished room. 🤍

Part I: Your kids won’t remember your resale value

The start of remodeling my daughter’s room came with the vision of crazy cats all over one of the walls. If I can actually pull this off I’ll need to then somehow design the entire rest of the room to not only look good but also feel like her. My husband may say this is ruining our resale value but I think it’s going to make the world of a difference in her childhood

Some memories deserve more than a back of a door and painting this whimsical flower height chart was definitely the right move

Each girl picked what they wanted to represent them - a butterfly and a ladybug. Next to each is the date they were that height.

I can’t wait to paint more butterflies and ladybugs as they grow!
