Salute the Sun. Winki wave. The winter sun hits a perfectly blinding position in the mornings at Winki Pop. Acrylic on found foam with an indigo ink drawing on butchers paper laminated as a tissue on the foam with epoxy resin and fiberglass off cuts from Joymill Surfboards, with a few more layers of paint and resin. Beautifully framed by @oakframing #surfartist #surfcoastartist #morganbridgeford #surfart #winkipop by @morganbridgeford
A recent commission, a celebration of the craft of a surfboard shaper and the work they do to create a custom board. How could I say no when a fin was involved. Boots from @joymillsurfboards found this little red fin template amongst a whole pile of templates that were destined for the fire. It was made by Wayne Lynch for Tom Laws @thomasmlaw first custom surfboard at 13. He apparently still has the board in storage with all the sponsors stickers a 13 year old would want. The brief was to create a piece of art from this found fin template as a wedding gift for Tom and Lizzie. To start I made a plywood fin from the template for symmetry and dimension. I grabbed a broken board found on the rocks of winki pop and cut a ring as a frame to represent a port hole to the past and painted it yellow as a nod to the unity of the wedding ring. There’s a whole lot of symbolism going on and was a super fun piece to create and enjoyed the journey of where it took me. Thanks boots for the freedom and opportunity. Congratulations to the newly weds. I hope it catches their eye and makes them smile, with a bit of feel good magic. Finished in resin and fiberglass off cuts from Joymill. #surfart #weddinggift #surfcrafts #morganbridgeford #surfartist by @morganbridgeford
Cool fire. Found foam mold experiment. Painted fiberglass in resin. Cooked the first pour and melted the mold. Back filled with resin. Hand painted face with indigo ink and finished in resin coat to seal it together. #surfartist #surfcoastartist #morganbridgeford #foundfoam #surfcrafts by @morganbridgeford
Two fins and a spliced board chunk found at Winki Pop on my @foundafin walks. Two concepts working through the challenges of internal expectations. Always learning from these little journeys. #surfart #surfartist #morganbridgeford #surfcoastartist #foundafin by @morganbridgeford
The hidden sign of Bells Beach, needed to be recreated and celebrated. This one’s off to a new home. Made from found foam, painted and sanded back for a vintage patina, text carved and resin tinted with cyan toner and finished with a couple of coats of epoxy resin. For that glossy feel good magic. #surfart #bellsbeach #morganbridgeford #foundfoam #surfcoastartist by @morganbridgeford
What better way to work on a tee print design for @coreygrahamshapes with a bit of artwork, with a hand painted tissue decal on a bit of found foam. Beaten chunk of board found at winki, laminated with fiberglass off cuts from Joymill. Finished in epoxy resin for that feel good magic. #surfart #surfcrafts #surfcoastartist #feelgoodmagic #morganbridgeford by @morganbridgeford
Early this year Rip Curl commissioned me to make a search totem out of found foam. This led to it getting onto the Easter Sunday WSL broadcast of the Bells Pro. I then developed 2 other versions, a stone finish and one carved out of reclaimed surfboard resin. Each came out looking rad. The original totem was chosen and taken on a cool journey and photographed along the way as the Search series collateral was created. I was initially told that it would be used as the brand sign off for the search capsule. Awesome. So to complete the roll out rip curl ordered 3 big search totems and another 12 small ones. It’s super cool to be able to take a product that was destined for the tip covered in its battle scars. Each with its own story. My supplies were short so I had to call on Mr found foam @coreygrahamshapes for a special delivery from his stash to make it happen. Walking into the stores this week filled me with pride and slightly overwhelmed at how this little totem has grown into something so much bigger. How good to see instore point of sale made from a recycled product by hands locally. Beautiful in their imperfections, sitting next to a surfboard shaped by my good mate Corey Graham. Thank you to @ripcurl and the crew, stoked to be a part of it. #surfart #foundfoam #madebyhand #morganbridgeford #surfartist by @morganbridgeford
Some graphics I’ve been working on lately for an adaptive surf academy in California and New York. I love what they’re providing for people who would never normally get to experience surfing and then to work towards being independent in the water or just stoked to be feeling the motion of catching waves. That makes me stoked. Check out @flowsurfacademy and the nonprofit work they do. @flowwavewarriorsacademy @wolfshedstories cheers Pat. #surfdesign #surfart #morganbridgeford #surfcoastartist #adaptivesurf by @morganbridgeford
This episode of The Horse’s Mouth, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Morgan Bridgeford. @morganbridgeford @foundafin Morg’s is such an amazing human — a family man, artist, and surfer who’s been on a journey through the dark night of an autoimmune disease. He’s been to the depths and back, slowly rebuilding himself along the way. Through reconnecting with nature, Morgs has discovered a whole new level of expression, purpose, and understanding of life. It’s an amazing story of endurance, love, and listening to the quiet whispers of creativity and inspiration. Go Morgs. Love what you do. by @morganbridgeford
Had a write up in the @surfcoasttimes about art as therapy, my fin finding obsessions. Big thanks to @nathan_rivalland for the article. My daughter framed it and set it in place in the winkipop chop shop, to keep me focused. #surfcoastartist #surfcrafts #morganbridgeford #foundafin by @morganbridgeford
Some fresh rad resin completed and live on the website. #surfart #surfcrafts #surfcoastartist #morganbridgeford #reclaimedresin by @morganbridgeford
