Stay bold and weird, sweet souls.

Goodbye social media. I will not be offering my attention or energy to this space any more. It doesn’t feel in integrity to me. Im leaving the room 🛝🌙

I am tending carefully to my mind to remain vivid and vigorous so that I can show up with integrity and care in these times.

Times are changing and I want to change with them so that I can be useful and alive and reman open hearted. In order to do that I need to reclaim my whole brain, my hands, my breath. I need to make art and make messes and feel through how to make a difference in this moment on earth.

You can find me at the library, at a protest, in the ocean, dancing with my child, creating spaces for creativity and wonder. Healing, working, cleaning, raging, resting, gardening, helping, unlearning, loving deeply.

I will be writing on substack and sharing upcoming offerings and emerging works through the MuseLetter. I will be getting back in the studio to quietly make and experiment for a while.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial ‘outside agitator’ idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.”

—Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
Letter from a Birmingham Jail

Listen deeply to the needs of our neighbors. Donate to mutual aid. Give rides. Speak up. Protect our neighbors. If you have the means, donate your resources, not just now but all year long. Buy your neighbor groceries or drop them off outside the door. Contact your senator. Show up. Protest. Be defiant. Be brave. Breathe deep.

Some resources and organizations that are doing epic work right now:

@ilapmaine @maineneeds @maineimmigrantrights @projectreliefme @manamaine

P.S. I’m not able to be on social media much right now. Please take tender care of yourselves. Rest up. And to my fellow white people, let’s stand up in true solidarity. Let’s get to work. by @morganmitchellcreates

When artists get together, magical things happen. The solstice market was a collaborative celebration of making things and making things happen, together. We are so blown away by how it all unfolded.

On the eve of the darkest day of the year, in a heartbreaking time in human history, we gathered and filled our buckets with the power of creativity, connection and community.

So many gorgous works of art and fashion filled the space. We raised funds for @artvanprogram and donations for the community fridge. We shared ideas, inspiration and warmth and danced to a transcendent set of vinyl grooves by @dj.roylt

Keep creativity close, friends. This is the energy that will sustain us. Keep creating, keep making, even if just a doodle on the back of a restaurant receipt. Our power is in creativity and in caring for one another in creative ways.

Thank you all so much for sharing your gifts in this way, makers and bakers and movers and shakers! And thank you all for coming to co-create this beautiful event with us all. Thank you for investing in creative community and collaboration.

Music featured on this post is an original song by my bestie @naomiwestwater who crafted one of the most elegant albums you will ever experience, Cycle and Change. Go buy the record: https://naomiwestwater.bandcamp.com/album/cycle-change

This is our story. This is what healing in community looks like. This is what doing a hard thing together feels like. This is the warmth of cold.

Little Dippers, a gorgeous, poetic documentary by the brilliant film maker and editor, dipper and dear friend Mike Malle @krnalpanic

We are so stoked that Mike’s work will be featured at Sunday’s Water Women Film Fest hosted by @twomainemermaids at @space538

Cold water dipping has molted me down closer to my essence. There is a watery etching that happens with every dip. Every icy glance skyward something lets loose, something shakes awake somehow. I now realize that I can come to the water with something and leave without it. This drawing quality, a pulling out of my body things that I could not reach, is the perfect companion to any healing journey, and frankly, we are all healing from something.

The cold filled in my edges, like a liquid blue cocking along my warped frame. Silken sensation. A hard feeling that leaves a rippling wake of tenderness somehow. A corrosive yet gentle burn, an elective affliction, steeping ourselves like breathing tea leaves, bringing us to an internal boil.

The intensity that brings life up from the earth in Spring, stringy green things climbing skyward - it is that same intensity that strikes a silvery chord within our frozen bellies. We are touching the live wire of existence, maybe, or maybe are are touching nothing at all, the center of the basin, the void where only energy lives. I don’t think I will ever fully understand the powers possessed by the cold, but I know that I have been forever changed by its electrifying touch and the wake of warmth and connection is has set into motion.

Forever grateful for @iamwritingstorieswiththelight for encouraging me to get in the ocean when I was in so much pain. You are the original Little Dipper and inspire me daily.

When we were growing up, here in Boothbay Harbor, at the top of a hill, on a dead end, my sister and I thought it was normal that our dad had a darkroom in the basement. We didn’t think twice about the smell of chemicals, the curtains of black plastic, the red light, the classical music humming out of an old radio. It was just what our dad did. He went to the basement to develop his black and white images.

@robertmitchellsmaine is a self taught, visual poet that always trusts his instincts and lets his curiosity lead. He drives to the grocery store with a camera just incase something catches his eye on the way home. He makes few plans. He always encouraged us to do the same.

He has been making (not taking, he always makes that distinction) photographs in the area for over 50 years.

This Saturday come to the Old Fire House (@mitchellandcostudio) to have a cup of coffee with our pops. Chat him up, ask him questions about how photography has changed over the years, his favorite spots to photograph, get him to sign your calendar, book, poster, print. Stock up on notecards and postcards. This is your moment to kick back and chat with this extremely humble creator.

What could possibly make such a casual morning sweeter? Coffee and French Macarons, that is! Coffee will be by @colorfieldcoffee an absolutely delightful, magical really, local rosters and self-service 24/7 creative sanctuary right here in East Boothbay. Run by a family of artists, their flavors are bold and rich, make you want to dance and sing and call a friend. We will have bags of their roasts for sale to add to your holiday list.

And French Macarons by our beloved Betty @eatandtravellllll or @delish207. Where do we begin with the wonders of this creatress and her works of eatable art. Besides being one of the worlds most generous and lovely humans, she can make your mouth smile I’m ways you’ve never known possible. Do not miss the chance to purchase her meticulously crafted boxes of French macarons. They are divine.

So see you there, friends. The Old Firehouse building, 1038 WiscassetRoad Boothbay Maine, just off the commons. If parking is tight, there is parking at the center. taken in Mitchell & Co Studio by @morganmitchellcreates

Big news! Second annual pumpkin party Saturday 10/18 5-7pm at @mitchellandcostudio. Come hang out with the 872lb pumpkin and cozy into fall. This year’s pumpkin is even bigger than last year, our dear friend Jim Jellison is a true magic maker, working day in and day out to grow this beauty from a seed from last year’s pumpkin.

Bring a non perishable food item to the party to add to the community fridge, a community care resource open 24/7 behind the boothbay town hall.

This photo was taken on film by my brilliant Andrei of last year’s pumpkin names “Penelope poppy.”
This year’s design is in the works. Follow stories to track the evolution.

Our beloved friend Betty of @delish207 may or may not be making her exquisite French macarons for the party…don’t miss this, friends.
