THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST: THE PATH BACK TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER

God’s Plan of Salvation answers three eternal questions:

Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going?

We lived with our Heavenly Father before this life. We came to earth to receive bodies, exercise agency, learn, grow, and become more like Jesus Christ. Through His infinite Atonement and Resurrection, we can overcome sin and death and return to God’s presence.

But how do we follow Him?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us five essential principles and ordinances:

Faith in Jesus Christ — Trust in our Savior and His redeeming power.

Repentance — Turn away from sin and turn our hearts toward God.

Baptism — Enter into a covenant to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost — Receive divine guidance, comfort, and sanctifying power.

Endure to the End — Continue faithfully following Christ, repenting, and keeping our covenants throughout our lives.

FAITH AND WORKS: NOT OPPOSITES, BUT PARTNERS

We cannot earn salvation through our own efforts. We are saved through the grace and merits of Jesus Christ.

Yet genuine faith inspires us to act.

Our obedience does not purchase God’s love. It expresses our love for Him.

Our works do not replace His Atonement. They demonstrate our willingness to follow Him and allow His grace to transform us.

📖 Ephesians 2:8–10 — We are saved by grace through faith and created in Christ Jesus unto good works.

📖 James 2:17 — Faith without works is dead.

📖 2 Nephi 25:23 — We are saved by grace, after all we can do.

📖 Moroni 10:32–33 — Come unto Christ, be perfected in Him, and be sanctified through His grace.

The goal isn’t simply to do good things.

The goal is to become more like Jesus Christ through His grace.

His is the power to save. Ours is the choice to follow.

Faith leads us to Christ. Repentance changes our direction. Covenants bind us to Him. The Holy Ghost sanctifies us. Enduring faithfully prepares us for eternal life.

When we’re weary, the Savior does not stand at a distance. He draws near. Waiting for us to ask for His help and comfort.

Isaiah prophesied of Jesus Christ as the Suffering Servant—the Deliverer who would bear our griefs and carry our sorrows. He came not only to open the prison, but to enter into our pain and redeem us through His love.

“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary.” —Isaiah 50:4

Whatever you’re carrying, you can turn to Christ. His kindness endures, His invitation is open to all, and He offers healing and peace to those who come unto Him. (See Isaiah 53:4–5; 54:8, 10; 55:1; 57:15–19.) I can think of many times I’ve turned to my Savior to heal my heart and soul. I’ve lost many close to me and needed Him. I’ve struggled with my own faults that have gotten in my way hurting my own marriage. But Christ has always been there to comfort and guide me.

This week, as we studied Isaiah 50–57, did you consider: What does the Savior carry with you—and what word of hope can you offer someone who is weary?

“Let it be a little thing to you, O house of Israel, to serve your God.” —2 Nephi 25:23 because it should be as hard as breathing in our lives to choose to serve God and follow his commandments.

Salvation is a gift of God, made possible only through the grace and Atonement of Jesus Christ. We cannot earn it—but faith in Christ changes us. It leads us to repent, follow His teachings, make covenants, and serve one another.

Our good works don’t replace the Savior’s grace; they are the fruit of trusting Him and loving Him. As the Book of Mormon teaches, we are saved by grace “after all we can do” (2 Nephi 25:23)—not apart from Christ, but through Him.

Many take that scripture as a claim that we are a works based church but it doesn’t claim that. Read it as even after all we do it’s not enough but Christ and His Atonement are what is required to return to Him and our Heavenly Father.

Faith receives the gift. Discipleship is how we respond.

MASTER THE TOOL—DON’T LET IT MASTER YOU.

Our phones can help us learn, serve, and stay connected. But when scrolling steals our attention from prayer, family, duty, or the person right in front of us, it’s time to pause and choose deliberately.

Christ taught, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). He also invited His disciples to “come, follow me” (Matthew 4:19)—a reminder to direct our attention toward what leads us closer to Him.

Elder David A. Bednar taught: “Continually seek for ways that technology can draw us closer to the Savior and allow us to accomplish His work.” —“Things as They Really Are,” April 2010 General Conference. [1]

Try a simple reset today: ask why you’re picking up your phone, decide what you intend to do and for how long, then put it away when that purpose is fulfilled. Silence nonessential notifications. Make space for scripture study, face-to-face conversation, family time, and quiet moments to pray and listen.

This isn’t about rejecting technology. It’s about using it with purpose—and keeping our hearts fixed on Christ and the people He has placed in our lives.
As someone who struggles with a screen addiction that has hurt my family this is something that matters to me and that I’m working on myself.

Purpose. Plan. Pause. Choose what matters most.

When I was in the Missionary Training Center, I was carrying the knowledge that I was now the only active member of my family. I was also working through a lot of inner conflict. Then I came across this talk by Elder Marvin J. Ashton.

It gave me a perspective I’ve held onto for the past decade: following Jesus Christ can bring us peace—both in our hearts now and eternally. Just as He calmed the storm when He said, “Peace, be still,” He can calm us, too. The storms of life may still come, but we don’t have to face them alone.

As we learn to trust Him and follow His commandments, we can find His peace. by @mormon_minuteman

This weekend we were blessed to hear from God’s Prophet and Apostles and other members of Christ’s Church during General Conference.

At times we hear messages of peace that give us comfort in our lives. And at other times we receive messages that correct us because we are veering off course.

This weekend there was a talk that addressed gambling by @dtoddchristofferson which for me seemed like a good reminder for something I’ve been taught my whole life. But the message sent a wild fire through social media. I don’t know how something that the Church had spoken against since the Prophet Joseph Smith jr became so common.

However I choose not to condemn those are struggling with this. Not only because I am far perfect and am a man with many flaws of my own. But because a common message I heard and felt throughout General Conference was to pray that I can see others for who they are first and foremost, God’s Children. How can I not love my brothers and sisters who are so loved by our Heavenly Father that He gave up His only begotten Son, our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ?

We are so lucky to be on the earth today where we can still listen to the words of His Prophets that we can repent and correct our course so we can live with Him again one day. by @mormon_minuteman

Joseph Smith grew up amid intense religious activity in western New York. Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists, and other Christians offered competing interpretations of scripture and salvation. His mother and several siblings associated with the Presbyterians, while Joseph felt “somewhat partial to the Methodist sect.”

Joseph’s accounts describe two connected concerns. His 1832 history emphasizes his awareness of sin, desire for forgiveness, and concern that existing churches had departed from New Testament Christianity. His 1838 account emphasizes the conflict among denominations and his desire to know which church he should join.

While reading the Bible, Joseph encountered James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.” Believing that God could answer sincere prayer, he decided to ask Him directly.

Joseph did not enter the grove intending to establish a new religion. He entered seeking forgiveness, wisdom, and direction. According to his testimony, the answer he received became the beginning of something much greater than the question he carried there.

The Restoration began with a young man taking scripture seriously enough to ask God what he should do, and believing that God might actually answer.

General Conference is a chance to pause, listen, and seek the guidance we need.

Prepare your heart: • Pray and ask the Lord what He wants you to learn. • Study the scriptures and revisit past counsel. • Write down the questions on your heart. • Create a home where your family can listen and feel the Spirit. • Be ready to act on what you hear.

Come with faith, questions, and a willing heart. Let the words you hear become the choices you make.

“Pure revelation for the questions in your heart will make this conference rewarding and unforgettable.” — President Russell M. Nelson

This weekend is an amazing chance to hear the words of the Prophet and Apostles of Christ’s Church!
