#introduction for @sewover50 and today’s #sewingclass : I started #sewing as a first former @ashfordschool , our #firstmake was a #sewingbag (that beautiful orange!). We held a #classreunion last year just 40 years after we left (wearing #memade ). Since school I’ve trained @lcflondon_ and worked as a #productionmanager , brought up my girls and taken up #teachingsewing . A busy morning, and I’m off out to meet a friend shortly, but I couldn’t miss another #FashionOnTheSofaFriday - although Wendy did duty for us both last week ☺️

It’s sufficiently autumnal for my corduroy pinafore (from someone else’s leftovers) with a mended rtw top and an old cotton cardigan. I shall add layers before I go out, though the sun is shining.

The sofa was reupholstered by me, and I made the cushions and curtains too.

It’s an #UpholsteryThursday, and I have been in the packing shed, but I was teaching some of my fellow classmates to make reusable crowns and crackers 👑🎄👑

There was silent concentration, the hum of sewing machines, inspecting of one another’s progress, a great deal of laughter, and home made cake: a good day!

Done up you cannot tell that I have done my #MendsDay mending, but you could scroll to unwind the work @VisibleMend @MendsAndFriends.

You could also find yesterday’s student’s work, top stitching her shirt cuffs and hemming. She’s now reviewing buttons.

I may yet add more stitches to the binding to try and make it look less fuzzy, but the dog toy is looking considerably better than it did. Although I did the additional work yesterday evening, I’m posting it for #MondayMending @MendsAndFriends as today has mostly been about getting home 🚘

I have had a FABULOUS couple of days! Thank you @londonfrocktails for arranging a joyful party @swanlondon_ , @SewOver50 for building a community of supportive and inspirational sewists, and all the lovely people who I met/remet and generally hung out with: it’s been a real pleasure 🤗🤗🤗

Swipe to unwind the time through coffee, the Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell exhibition, Frocktails, lunch, and #FashionOnTheSofaFriday. And there’s a questionable bonus pic taken at the exhibition where you could see yourself in one of the outfits - I am not a blond 😂

In case you want to know, my jeans have been being mended since 2014, the jacket is an @stokxpatterns #MarionHoodie in old jeans, mended in the making; the Frocktails jacket is reversible and made from upholstery fabric and a curtain panel with a print fault, both gifted to my stash, and has been worn to five weddings and the races, the orange dress was originally made in 2005 for a wedding (with a matching jacket) and has since had its neckline altered; and Friday’s outfit was an Ilford jacket and pinafore combination, both refashioned jeans. Almost always #So50Reworn and #MendCore ♻️

The sail dungarees are finished, and though long, are a pretty good fit!

The pattern details are a couple of posts back, but I am grateful to @HPortemanteau for gifting it to me. The sail was also a gift from a friend 😂

It is #SagamOctopusOctober of course, and I gather that Octopus dream, and these dungarees could well be dreaming of their new life while remembering their sailing days… a good enough argument @SueStoney, @Sewing_in_Spain @Carmen.Cose 🤔

It’s a #SewingTuesday so this is my students’ work: velvet trousers are cut out; the blouse has cuffs (if only I’d photographed them 🙄); the tote bag from sewing leftovers is finished and two old blinds have been resized and encased in new fabric.

I’m posting the before first for a change because I’m not sure you can tell that I have spent two mornings working on this commission!

This dog toy has been attacked by two puppies, and the owner of one of them is heartbroken. The toy belonged to his first puppy, so, for sentimental reasons, it is to be returned to as near as possible to its original state! It is made of a very plastic corduroy lookalike, backed with a plastic knit, and they are now covered in teeth marks. Both ears are torn, and the plastic binding is frayed in several places…

A power cut yesterday morning, and a car service this morning means I have made a start…

Time for #FashionOnTheSofaFriday, in #So50Reworn - memades, secondhand, hand me up and mended outfit. It’s the first outing of this pinafore in a while, the summer has been too warm for refashioned jeans!

Swipe for views of the area which always provides fabulous skies even if you can’t see the view. We have walked “around the block” (hill) where we’re staying. Visited Creech Arch, Stair Hole (at Lulworth Cove), Lulworth Cove and Corfe Castle, and today we have tickets for the pictures in Wareham. Home tomorrow.
