šŸ“£Our South Island public access pilot will begin tomorrow, Saturday October 3.

Three gates north and northwest of Sooke will open to the public for day access, adding to our existing network of 27 public access points. The pilot responds to what we heard in our 2025 recreation survey.

Before you go:
šŸ”¹Gates are open 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays
šŸ”¹Cycling, walk-in and licensed highway vehicle access allowed
šŸ”¹ATV and dirt bike access through the Sooke and Cowichan Valley ATV clubs only

These are working forests, so gates may close on short notice for wildfire risk, operations or safety. Follow signage at the gates and check our Access Map before you head out: https://www.mosaicforests.com/access

And remember to plan accordingly with limited or no cell coverage in some spots – tell someone about your trip and when you’ll be expected back.

Thanks for exploring responsibly. by @mosaicforests

Gates are open across our land base this weekend, including the gate at Northwest Bay – all open 6 am to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday.

We're also working toward opening previously closed gates in the south Island as a pilot. Unfortunately, wildfire activity has pushed the start. We'll post the date here once it's set.

We didn’t have enough rain in time to restart our public firewood program this weekend. If conditions allow, we’ll resume next weekend. Watch our social channels and https://www.mosaicforests.com/firewood for more.

And if you haven’t taken it yet, our 5-minute survey on how digital tools could help improve your recreational experience is still open: https://www.mosaicforests.com/survey

Enjoy another safe weekend out there. by @mosaicforests

Target shooting puts key risk factors in one place—hard targets and repeated shots. Fragments can land in dry material on the forest floor and start a fire, even days later.

As we head into a busy recreational season, please keep an eye out. Early fall used to bring cooler temps, more rain, and the fire risk dropping. This hasn’t been the case in recent years—and not this past weekend when we had three separate wildfires on the Mosaic land base.

Remember: No campfires (except at our open campsites that are not under a fire ban), no target shooting and be extra careful with any activity under current weather conditions.

There were three fires on Mosaic’s land base this past weekend, including the one pictured above near Sooke, which is likely human caused. We are supporting BC Wildfire Service’s efforts in the area. With the fire danger rating listed as high for the area, the public access gate in Northwest Bay will be closed this weekend. The warm daytime weather and lack of recent rain has everything dry and susceptible to wildfires. Please be careful out there – campfires are not permitted anywhere on the Mosaic land base except at our designated campsites.

A reminder that hunting season is now open. Hunting licence holders still need to abide by designated gates and times. Target shooting is prohibited anywhere on Mosaic lands.

Applicable gates are open 6am to 6pm. Plan accordingly to give yourself enough time.
