The Meeting of Rumi & Shams is not a retelling of a legend. It is an invitation to experience the moment that transformed a seeker into one of the greatest voices of love and humanity.

Through the intimate dialogue of the tar and kamancheh, we create a musical space where silence becomes meaning, improvisation becomes conversation, and every note carries the echo of a timeless encounter.
Rooted in the rich tradition of Persian music and inspired by Sufi philosophy, this performance transcends borders, languages, and beliefs. It speaks directly to what unites us all: the search for love, truth, and transformation.

This is not simply a concert. It is a journey into the heart of one of humanity's most profound encounters.

Koohestan (Mountain) is a musical program arranged by the master of the Persian barbat, Hossein Behroozinia. Serving as a journey through the diverse regional cultures of Iran, Koohestan bridges geographic boundaries by translating centuries-old folkloric themes into sophisticated new arrangements. Through these compositions—including the well-known regional melody Dreneh Jan—the program captures the distinct cultural identities rooted in Iran’s rugged mountainous terrains, offering a cohesive structural narrative of heritage, longing, and community.

For this concert, the repertoire features a unique instrumentation designed to highlight the expressive depth of the Persian lute. Hossein Behroozinia leads on the barbat—an ancient precursor to the modern oud that he has famously revitalized as a prominent solo voice. He is joined by Tristan Driessens on second oud, creating an intricate, multi-layered dialogue between the string instruments. Providing the structural rhythmic framework is Pouriya Jaberi on daff and bendir, whose dynamic percussion patterns preserve the essential pulses of Iranian folk tradition. by @mostafataleb_

Tonight marks the first public presentation of my artistic research at the end of my first year of the Master's program at Codarts University.
This performance is part of my research process, exploring how the musical language and ritual expression of music from Lorestan (Iran) can be translated into a contemporary ensemble.

Deeply looking forward to playing with Iranian master musician Mostafa Taleb on kamancheh next week during two liturgical music meditations in the Oslo area: @tanummenighet Tanum kirke in Bærum, Wed Apr 15 at 19.30; and @sagene_og_iladalen_menighet Sagene kirke in Oslo Thursday Apr 16 at 19.00. Not concerts, but liturgical meditations with silence, candle lighting, readings etc.; and generous amounts of music..! Some pictures of our last week's concert at the Jordi Savall Festival, Santes Creus, 17th of August 2025. Updates about future events coming soon.

The program of this concert aimed to highlight the rhythmic flexibility of Persian music, emphasizing how it can modulate and adapt within its formal system. The practice of rhythmic singing - Zarbi-Khani -, where melodies are improvised based on rhythmic patterns, as well as the tradition of Saz va Avaz, which establishes an improvised exchange between singer and musician based on the modes of Iranian music, was the central focus of this performance, showcasing how Persian melodies and rhythms remain relevant and capable of innovative expression today.
