Moth Quartet on the red carpet at the @aotearoamusicawards last night.

A night of celebrating the successes in Aotearoa music. It was moving and heartening to take stock of the standard, breadth and amount of music made here.
We are very good at knowing what we want to say and saying it directly.
We speak in many voices.
We deserve more funding.

Congratulations especially to @mjsnorris who narrowly snatched the Best Classical Artist award from our claws. Michael is a friend and has been a mentor to each moth over the last decade. Rerenga is an awesome record of his music. We are fans here in the house of moth.

Putting together a playlist for the flight home, and it's @maaofficialmusic 's record with @dick_move_dick_pics to keep it scrappy and @alienweaponry to keep it scary by @mothquartet

Noel Meek @noel_meek_artist has written an essay, "Moth Quartet: Spectres of Whenua" about our album Tundra. Thoughtful words about what it is to evoke landscape in this way. He also puts this aspect of Tundra in conversation with some other really awesome artists who deal with similar questions.

Get your first taste of our upcoming album! Tundra (Pt. 2) is available to stream on Bandcamp now, where you can also or save the album ahead of its release on 12 December.

To us, this track has a resplendence, it’s a big sky, the momentum of weather.

Give it a listen. And get in touch - we would love to hear from you. Message us if this brings up an image or a memory, or you have thought of a joke you think Tristan might like.

Our album Tundra is coming out on 12 December. @kell.sunshine has done this design for us using a photo Rodney Vaughan (Elliot’s dad!) took in Lapland in the early 80s. In an imagined expanse, it’s a fixation on the details. Macro and micro awe. The horizon, what you can run your finger over, and nothing in between.

Stay tuned for an announcement about the release. We can’t wait to share the music with you. by @mothquartet
