An excerpt from my piece “A Thread Through Time”, performed by the wonderful Moth Trio! @mothquartet

This piece was a collaboration with the trio as it includes sections of improvisation, so I’m especially grateful for the artistry these incredible musicians brought to it. ❤︎

Thank you to the trio for such a wonderful performance, @composersassociationnz for the incredible opportunity, @sounz_nz for the footage, and @nz_on_air for funding the film! ⋆♫ ♪ ⟡ ⋆˙

The work explores the way music connects us across time, culture, and experience. At the heart of the work is the idea that creation often begins in solitude. We shape ideas that come from our own experiences, emotions, and ways of seeing the world and often there is no certainty as to how they may ultimately be understood by others. When that music is eventually shared, something personal can become something collective. The piece reflects on that shift, the idea that while music constantly changes through new genres, cultures, and ways of creating, its connection to human experience remains. One person’s most honest expression can reach another, becoming part of a thread that continues through time.𓍯
