Cyrus

Last February, a good friend asked me to make photos of her 2-door G-Wagen. To that end, I borrowed the G for a few days - almost like a press car.

One of those days I was driving home after a lengthy shoot in Elysian Park in the G. I parked and I was entered my building, another 2-door G appeared seemingly out of no where. And behind the wheel was a Black man named Cyrus.

Two Black men with long hair driving rare SWB G-Wagens in Marina del Rey. Unicorn type shit. Cyrus and I instantly clicked. We quickly realized we both had roots in the Deep South. He was new to LA but he had an exquisite collection of cars and a million dollar smile. Once it was clear that he was a true enthusiast and a genuinely good dude, I quickly introduced him to as many of my car community contacts as I could.

A year later, Cyrus has a strong foot hold in the scene. Now, he’s the Founder of the @wanderwellsociety Gardena location. I know a lot about Cy’s history. His upbringing. His commitment to mental health. His affinity for foreign machinery. The way he served the Minnesota community during the George Floyd era. I could go on but much of this is his story to tell.

I’ll summarize it with this - Cyrus is really that guy. Not the flashy, I have fancy cars type. Nah, he’s a family man. An entrepreneur. A mental health advocate. A Black man who’s now on a mission to fulfill his dreams by serving others.

Cyrus, we solute you sir!

Steph

We caught up with Steph (@stuphyy), the co-founder of @theanalogue.co, and his S52 swapped E30.

In a modern world full of young folk clamoring for vintage vibes, Steph somehow stands out. There’s a consistency of authenticity with every reel and photoset he posts.

We asked Steph what drew him to the analogue aesthetic, and he told us about his upbringing and the value of making things last. Back at home, his family didn’t just toss out the old goods for the latest gadgets. He learned that things like old cars, film cameras, and thoughtful interior design pieces had a certain charm and soul to them.

For a rising social media sensation, Stuphyy displays an extreme amount of humility. His ego is right sized for the reality of the moment. This isn’t your traditional Bimmer Bro making loud noises in suburban shopping plazas. Nah, this is something else.

Steph is just a good dude, with exquisite taste, trying to stay authentic in a metaverse that rewards exaggeration.

@adriankmiles inspires an entire generation to drive BMW M. Keyword “drive”. You see what makes Mr. Miles smile is clocking dem miles. In other words, he doesn’t harbor any garage queens. We often discuss downsizing the collection. My response is never ever let this one go. And if so, call me first bro.

The holy grail, God’s chariot, the E30 BMW M3.

Don’t hate, appreciate!

The Wanderwell Society shop truck is a 1963 Chevy Corvair 95 Rampside Pickup tastefully decorated by the social club’s private Discord member base and applied by the one and only @clayton.sign.painting.

The shop truck primarily serves the purpose of its namesake. It’s used for shop runs to the parts store and back. Beyond that, it’s symbolizes the community that Wanderwell Society has built. Its members are engaged, enthusiastic, and energized by their local “watering hole”. Like so many of the members, this Corvair has a story and any tapped in WW society member owns some slice of that story.

I just happen to be the OG member with a camera who noticed the car parked in a picturesque spot.

ElleVictoria aka HeelsNClutch

ElleV caught my eye around 2020. She was the pretty redbone on IG that drove cool cars wearing fancy heels. I think we finally met at Newcombs Ranch. I instantly felt a depth and authenticity that commanded respect. But there was also warmth, laughs, and good vibes!

Over the years, our paths have crossed more intentionally. She’s supported my Black History Month activations. That meant the world to me. I purchased her book! I met her kids. They were cool too. I learned her history with cars and the inspiration she took from her father. I learned about the multiple patents she holds. She even taught me difference between a Vantage and a DB11. I was sleepin’ on Aston Martin. There’s levels to this ish.

Last fall, we ironically spent 3 days together on a Hemmings Motor Club rally. It was such a lovely time driving, vibing, laughing with ElleV and her eldest daughter, Kaia. There was a certain level of humility in Kaia that comes from good parenting.

Today, ElleV is one of my favorite humans, full stop. Just like the cars she drives, there’s so much more to her than meets the eye. I’m humbled to be someone she shares her truth with and allows herself to be photographed by. Join me in putting some respect on her name.

Miss ElleVictoria - a mother, an inventor, an author, a self-made business woman who happens to be a classy pretty redbone with a propensity for wearing fancy heels whist driving manual transmissions in very special cars. 🏁

want what you have

Appreciation post for my 1969 BMW 1600. Tastefully enhanced with a M20 punched out to 2.7 liters.

In an agentic algorithmic world constantly telling us we need more, sometimes you have to stop and appreciate what you have and what you’ve accomplished.

I have a dream of owning a bunch of BMWs someday. Like a R NineT, a M1, a first gen X5, an E28 M5, a Manofied Turbo, a Son of Cobra Alpina… the list goes on and on. I can get so caught up future-tripping that I forget that I already own one of the dopest vintage BMWs in this city. A survivor spec 1600 with a lil extra under the bonnet. Y’all know I drive my shit!! And what a blessing to be able to do so.

For today, I want what I already have. We’ll worry about acquiring that M1 later.
