Our commercial kitchen is officially licensed, and we’re looking for people to put it to use.

The kitchen at Mount Ida Preservation Hall has been commercially licensed before, including as the home of a local chocolate business. But this time, there’s an important difference: Mount Ida Preservation Association is holding the license ourselves.

That means we can make the kitchen available as a shared resource; lowering the barrier for food entrepreneurs, caterers, chefs, instructors, community organizations, and others who need access to an affordable, licensed commercial kitchen.

A huge thank you to Chef Larry Schepici, who generously donated his time and expertise to help us get here by helping us find equipment and getting the kitchen ready for inspection and use. His support has been invaluable in getting this space back up and running.

The kitchen includes commercial cooking equipment, refrigeration, sinks, and extensive stainless-steel prep space. Rates range from $15–$22/hour depending on hours of use.

And we’re not finished yet. We’re currently pursuing licensing through New York State Agriculture & Markets, which will expand the kinds of food production and businesses the kitchen can support.

If you have a food business, an idea you’re trying to get off the ground, or simply need commercial kitchen space in Troy, we’d like to hear from you. Send us a message to talk about using the kitchen.

And if someone comes to mind while reading this, send this their way. by @mountidapreservation

An Evening Over the Falls — 2026

On Saturday evening, September 26th, Mount Ida Preservation Hall filled with neighbors, friends, artists, volunteers, and supporters for our second annual Evening Over the Falls.

We shared a beautiful early fall dinner prepared by Chef Larry Schepici and his team, enjoyed music throughout the evening by Cameron Fisher, Valentino Strano, Lucas Heffern, as well as Alex Chang (of Improv Spaces), Nick Kopp, and Abu Zeyn, celebrated the work happening at Mount Ida, and looked ahead to what comes next for this old building and the community growing around it.

We were especially proud to honor longtime board member Tom Sanzone, whose steady service, good judgment, and willingness to lend a hand have helped sustain Mount Ida for more than a decade.

The evening was also a reminder of just how far this place has come. A building once threatened with indefinite dilapidation was full again, with conversation, music, food, performance, and people invested in its future.

A BIG Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, performed, cooked, volunteered, and helped make the evening possible.

Here are a few moments from a very special night at Mount Ida. Album is posted to facebook. by @mountidapreservation

Rocky Horror returns to Mount Ida for year three, this year presented as A Tim Curry Tribute.

One of the shows that’s been with us since the beginning, Audacity’s Cabaret returns to Mount Ida Preservation Hall this October for another live shadow-cast performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Last year, all three performances sold out. This year, Rocky Horror takes over the Hall for two nights: October 16 & 17.

And the movie is only part of the night. Doors open at 7 PM for a full pre-show featuring local vendors, drag performances, a costume contest, raffles, drinks, and more before the film and live shadow cast begin at 8:30 PM.

If you’ve been before, you know what happens when Rocky Horror fills this old church. If you haven’t, this is a particularly fun way to experience Mount Ida for the first time.

October 16 & 17
Doors 7 PM | Show 8:30 PM
Tickets $25 | Groups of 5+ $22.50/person

VOLUNTEERS MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Every concert, performance, market, gathering, and community program at Mount Ida takes people behind the scenes to make it work.

Volunteer for an event and help welcome guests, support artists, work concessions, set up the space, or lend a hand wherever it’s needed. Most volunteer shifts are only two hours—and volunteers get to enjoy the show for free.

It’s a chance to create, connect, support, and serve while becoming part of the community that makes Mount Ida possible.

Getting involved is easy:

1. Create a volunteer account.
2. Find an upcoming event or opportunity.
3. Sign up for a shift.

THE OPEN MIC AT MOUNT IDA

A good open mic can feel a little like the community speaking.

A song you’ve been practicing. A poem you just finished. A story. Comedy. An instrument we’ve never seen before. Something polished, something experimental, or something you’re trying in front of people for the very first time.

Hosted by extraordinary musician Lina Franzine, Mount Ida’s Open Mic is a space for expression, sharing, practice, and meeting one another.

Musically, creatively, stylistically almost anything goes.

When different styles, experiences, interests, and levels of experience all take the same stage, the room becomes more welcoming, and more interesting. You never quite know what someone is going to bring until they step up to the microphone.
