Yesterday I found myself in a moving meditation after receiving a gift of reiki from a friend ✨🌱😌

I’m sitting with big questions about my fertility and my deep yearning to create a family. I’ll turn 38 in 3 weeks and may start freezing my eggs just before, everything is set up to go. But this big question came to me from my womb during the reiki session. Is egg freezing the way? Or is softening and falling in love with life the way? This feels really vulnerable to be with here, but my work as a somatic coach is about just this, following the wisdom of the body and listening to the messages and sensations. So here I am listening to my body it’s not always easy.

Sometimes I feel a scream that wants to be felt, to take up space, to be heard, to move through me. Do you ever feel that? How would it be to let it move, let it be felt, how might it be to stay and allow the body and mind to be in union, to speak to each other. Allow the unfolding. The witnessing.

Dance came with me everywhere. Kitchen dancing and sharing it during lockdown became a thing. I gathered people online to get down and shimmy together. And, it helped a lot. And many were inspired and told me much later, thank you for inspiring those kitchen dances to shake off anxiety or move through sadness.

Emotion is energy in motion, give it space to move through.

There are shadows on the dance floor too.

A space where I can be all of me 🌓 and where I often meet others being all of them too.

I found a tribe here, underground techno was part of my life for 4 or so years. It was a potent, messy, beautiful time. I’m so grateful to all those souls that made it that way.

My curiosity grew and grew. So for a year and a half I volunteered for @icandanceuk working with young people with lived experience of disability co facilitating dance experiences and performances, helping create connection and wellbeing. In the final term we created a dance inspired by Frozen which the young people performed in at Alexandra Palace. I wish I could find the pictures it was such a special moment in time.

Connection through movement can say more than words. Try it out one day… ☺️🤸‍♂️

All this dancing and moving brought questions. I had to study it. So I went to Goldsmiths Uni and learnt about Movement and Dance Psychotherapy. It was an evening course for a year with theory, group therapy and a final reflective piece.

Here is a snippet of that reflection. It represents two voices in my mind making peace within me through movement. The voice of me and the voice id heard growing up.

This dancing went from awkward to weird and playful to soothing my soul.

Next stop on this dance train took me the festival that changed my world, not because of the festival but because of these fun loving humans, the jelly’s that danced all the silly and all the sexy! From awkward to weird, ‘move with Mina’ became a thing 😂. Thank you @nicolespartels who made this birthday video for me in lockdown. It still means the world to me. 🥰

Hello and welcome,

I’m recreating this space @movewithmina to share what I feel so constantly curious and passionate about.

Movement — it has been a source of nourishment and creativity for the last 7 years.

I’ve studied Movement and Dance Psychotherapy at @goldsmithsuol, yoga teacher training with @yogalikewater, movement facilitation with @dancethemedicine and lately deepened my practice and offerings becoming a somatic coach with The Somatic School.

I’m ready to share these embodiment practises and creative spaces with others. Expect curiosity, play, depth and much more.
