Being a poet means sinking into the everyday moments and magic. It’s only been three days off work and being a masters student and magic has flooded every moment. I completed my first year as a masters student w straight As!

And it’s as if the magic is catching up with me. I am so grateful for all this year has brought me - even the heartaches. I’m so grateful that I felt my way through the grief - I didn’t escape but sunk more into it.

Thank 2025 - I truly feel the shift in me - from priorities shifting - to saying no more - to stepping into my sovereignty and shedding for the new beginning. Thank you to those who truly showed up for me - and the ones who walked away - I am so grateful. There is room for more and meeting my authenticity has been my favorite part of this becoming.👋🏽💕🙏🏽 by @mozieonover

I am so incredibly heartbroken 💔 after hearing about the bombing of school students in Iran especially as an educator myself.

I am a daughter of parents (RIP) who met in the Chicano Movement - fighting for the rights of farm workers and taking action to introduce education to children in Juvie. I have heard stories about how my father would take to the streets and march as a musician and play with his band at events that needed them. I was told how my mother got arrested for involving herself in an arrest trying to protect her friend from police after seeing their Chicano house on campus burnt down on Cinco de Mayo. I am told stories of my great grandfather who was Apache and how his daughter, my grandmother, carried her high cheekbones and strong nose beautifully with pride. My Tia reminding me “from whence you came,” and to never forget that. I come from educators like my grandfather who was the first graduating Mexican from USC. I feel a sense of responsibility knowing all of this and being the product of legacy. So I write…
because know who I am….Chicana legacy, Apache pride ✊🏽

My rage for this land and the hands that control it lives on. I am reminded as to WHY I am SO passionate about speaking on the mic. Speaking truth to power. Empowering my community to speak out too. This is my power that I pray lives on beyond me for generations to come. But sometimes I wonder if that will ever be passed down because my hope is dropping. But my love is stronger than my doubt.

I carry a mixture of emotions as well for I just also found out that I made the Deans List for my masters program. These are the moments I wish I could call my parents and tell them the good news. See their reaction. But I can only imagine it. So I feel and I hope and I pray that somehow all this studying and work as an aspiring school counselor and poet of the people will mean something. I know it will.

Starting this weekend we are showing up for our ancestors and the ones who came before us. I love what I do so booked and busy is a dream for me.
Thank you to everyone who reached out and understands the value of poetry at their events - especially for a native to LA.

This one’s for my parents and grandparents, my padrino and my nephew and cousin who left too soon. I will always honor your lives! Dia de Los Muertos is officially my favorite holiday now because I get to remember you. Grief is a beautiful gift reminding us we once loved someone dear to our hearts.

Attention to detail means so much to me as an artist. When I was younger I wanted to be an interior designer pero writing took me into its own world. But as an artist it’s your responsibility to present artistry in every way - writer, designer, etc. You represent yourself, your business and your familia. Its an invitation to the depth we carry - so represent your artistry and creative business well corazón 💓 idk if its a Latina thing to not walk out the door looking sloppy bc mama would yell at you if you did - pero lmk in the comments if that was your case as it was for mine lol 😝 I wanted my set up to look like a Mexican romantic remembrance / altar- I’m gonna have fun with this and add more or change it up every so often 💞💞 by @mozieonover
