POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Starting this weekend we are showing up for our ancestors and the ones who came before us. I love what I do so booked and busy is a dream for me.
Thank you to everyone who reached out and understands the value of poetry at their events - especially for a native to LA.

This one’s for my parents and grandparents, my padrino and my nephew and cousin who left too soon. I will always honor your lives! Dia de Los Muertos is officially my favorite holiday now because I get to remember you. Grief is a beautiful gift reminding us we once loved someone dear to our hearts.

I love you all 🌹✨🌹✨ hope to see you at one of these events!

Had such a great time hosting the NELA Singer Songwriter Showcase last week at @themixx_pasadena. We curated such an amazing and diverse set of LA’s best artists! Much love and respect to our featured artist Limon @rasteka13 of East Los’ finest @quintosolmusic, as well as Sal Copas @sal.copas, Tony Centeno @tony.delirious,and Samantha Rose Garrison @samantharosegarrison. Such an honor and privilege to share a stage with you all! Also shout out to our talented open mic artists Vicky @distractanew, Monica @mozieonover, and Andres @spanishcastlemagic7- who graciously let me join him for a few Hendrix classics! I’m so proud of the community we are building! Thanks to Ed and his team at the Mixx for hosting our showcase, @aneuno for marketing and outreaching for the showcase and for always believing in cultivating local talent and last but not least everyone who attended and hung out on a school night! Love you all! Stay tuned for details on next month’s showcase- dm @robertthesaddad if you are interested in performing!

Hi 👋🏽 allow me to re-introduce myself. As I move into the next chapter of my life after a year of grief, full time teaching and finishing my masters - I know there will be a lot more “nay” sayers and lovely haters.

As a daughter of parents who met as Chicano activists I stand on strong shoulders and powerful protectors. Also a father, who as a Mariachi, lived the songs he sang - adoring his wife.

So what do I have to be afraid of in regards to my words, or how I look, or who I am, or being 4th generation, or what I am about to do? I will always be difficult putting myself out there as an artist but I’d rather be uncomfortable growing than uncomfortable staying the same.

So join me in growth rather than showing me hate.

Pero I’m not a check it off the list typa girl. I decenter men, talk ish about the patriarchy, believe in socialism, indigenous values and spells. ✨ I believe in a free world with imagination as our super power. Daydream with me ya?

Thank you to the ones who have walked away and thank you to the ones who chose to stay. You are a blessing. Viva La Raza, Viva Revolución, Viva Amor ❤️🌹🇲🇽‼️🙏🏽🫘

💰 Using art to fundraise to support anti-hielo efforts

A vision turned real while I witnessed art south of the border. If I return to LA, I wish to basque in the arts the people in my city cherish and share. I want to basque in creating because many moons ago, I stopped believing I was creative.

Gracias to Abya Yala (aka Latinamerica) for reminding me that I’ve always loved art and that WE are ALL artist@s! Observing how cultural arts is publicly displayed everywhere in the streets south of the border, reminded me of the importance of art as a tool for memory, expression, questioning & understanding.

Let’s create arte 2gether!

Gracias! 🙏🏽

📖🌱✨ More beautiful experience in the art world, and celebrating the beauty that is @mozieonover during her birthday time!

Appreciate being able to perform at the LA County Fair and meeting a lot of new people, get inspired by so much art, and see lots of friends success throughout the event.

Being a poet means being deep in love and being amongst a crowd of folks who come together in community to share stories, poesia, comida and deep care for one another is the most important medicine. We are so lucky to have you in our lives Monica, la reina de Los Angeles jaja- ily!
