We have 4 million children living in poverty in this country, yet we are the fifth richest economy in the world

The worst cost of living crisis since the 1950s

It's time this government committed to universal free school meals to end child poverty

🎵 It’s National Album Day 2026! 🎵

This year’s theme is “Icons” – celebrating the legendary and contemporary artists whose music transcends genres and generations, shapes culture, inspires audiences and future talent, and defines the sound of their era.

For me, one album that truly deserves iconic status is Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On, released in 1973.

I was fortunate enough to see Marvin Gaye perform live at the Empire Theatre in 1976, when I was just 16 years old.

More than 50 years on, Let’s Get It On remains an extraordinary album that has stood the test of time.

My all-time favourite track from the album is “Distant Lover” ❤️

What iconic album would you choose?

UNITY MARCH: Love, Hope, Unity

At a time when the politics of division are becoming louder, we must continue to stand together and show that our communities are stronger when united.

Join us as we bring people together from across the Liverpool City Region for a march and celebration of solidarity, diversity and hope.

This year, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of London to reject racism and division. We have an opportunity here in Liverpool to send the same message: that we choose hope over fear, love over hate, and unity over division.

📍 Myrtle Street, marching to St George's
🗓️ Saturday 14 November
⏰ Assemble from 12pm

Together, we can make the voices of unity louder than those who seek to divide us. by @mpkimjohnson

I was honoured to host Professor Stephen Small in Parliament last night for the launch of his new book, Black Liverpool: ‘The Real Thing’ - West African, West Indian and Afro-American Culture at the End of the Twentieth Century.

In Black Liverpool, Stephen brings to life the memories and achievements of the L8 community and highlights some of the people and organisations that helped shape them.

It is L8's legacy and a powerful reminder that no history of Black Britain is complete without a history of Black Liverpool.

Stephen remains a hugely respected figure in our city, and it was a pleasure to welcome him to Parliament to celebrate this important contribution to Liverpool’s social and cultural history.

We were also delighted to be joined by writer and educator Gus John, whose lifelong commitment to racial justice has inspired generations.

It was a fantastic evening celebrating our city’s rich heritage and the people who have helped shape it. by @mpkimjohnson

Pleasure to meet with Martin and Keziah today as part of @acornunion’s cost-of-living day of action in Parliament.

If this Government is serious about tackling the cost-of-living crisis, it must act where it matters most.

Poverty is a political choice.

I support ACORN’s demands for rent controls and the cancellation of energy debt, ensuring that no one is forced to choose between keeping a roof over their head and heating their home. by @mpkimjohnson

The Socialist Campaign Group's new policy pamphlet has launched 🌹

My contribution makes the case for public ownership. Public services should always serve the public – not private profit.

I've written to the Justice Secretary ahead of tomorrow’s Courts & Tribunals bill debate.

Last-minute changes don't address the core issue: the bill still weakens the right to trial by jury.

Lammy attempted to rush through these harmful reforms. We can't let that happen again. by @mpkimjohnson

Thanks to Caroline and Dan from the @cwunews Mersey and Greater Mersey branches for updating Liverpool Riverside members on the ongoing BT Openreach dispute.

I will continue working with city leaders and the CWU to oppose these plans. With 600 jobs at risk, BT must think again. by @mpkimjohnson

Fabulous evening meeting the brilliant @deanatta as part of @wow_fest’s Black History Month programme.

An award-winning author, poet and filmmaker, Dean is a phenomenal storyteller.

It was a pleasure to celebrate the publication of his adult literary debut, Big Man, and hear him speak so openly about his novel, his experiences and the people, places and moments that shape who we become. by @mpkimjohnson
