being online feels more and more vacuous every day. there’s very little return for how much time i spend on here. i’m thankful for a place to share art and be inspired, but everything starts to feel hijacked by ads, influcencers, and slop.
i know it’s ironic to critique the internet on the internet, but i’m moving into this new year with a motivation to push against this force called the web. sure it may connect us, but it also traps us.
i’m deeply interested in reclaiming spaces with people. with physical art. with food and friendship.
i know most of us feel this way, but shrug at the collective action problem we all settle down with.
but i’m hoping there can be a mass exodus out of whatever this trap is.

I hope this doesn’t just disappear in the void and noise of everything, but I’ve got a couple things I wanted to share.
•
Presence is in rare supply nowadays. With news, politics, technology, work, finances, stress, busyness, and everything else pulling us in different directions, to be present seems unrealistic and often impossible.
•
THIS IS BY DESIGN. The American way and the Online Life are actively killing our lives and our presence with one another and ourselves.
•
Secondly, I guess, we need more Slowness. Not just taking a break. Not only rest. But a shift of life. I feel like I’m always behind. I feel like there’s something I should be doing. And it’s felt more like a curse than a healthy incentive.
Most of the stressful issues I’ve seen in my own life or others can be treated with sloooowing down. Obviously slowness can’t pay the rent. Slowness can’t repair everything. But I’ve learned HOW I can approach these things can nurture a healthy state of being. And the “how” is to do things slowly.
•
We don’t need to normalize our lives, eyeballs, and attentions moving at an increasingly rapid speed. Because it’s killing us.
•
If you read nothing else, slow down.
Look someone in the eyes. Touch a tree.
Feel your lungs. Take up a new hobby.
•
Rebel against the powers that have commodified your stress, rage, and attention.
Rebel against your instinct to demean, judge, or sort other humans.
Rebel with with your peace.
•
