goodness, we just love ya!
from the top of your curly head,
to the kindness in your heart,
to the bottom of your feet that are always on the go,
you, sweet girl, are a breath-taking firework show.
forever displaying bursts of joy and laughter,
we just can’t believe you’re another year older.
you are your brother’s best friend,
and your baby sister will have your footsteps to follow,
and your dad and i are just so stinkin’ proud of you and all the things you are growing in.
you are such a sweet gift the Lord gave us!
first born, rutabaga, auggie,
happy birthday august!! ❤️

coffee time in the morning• planning out our days•choosing each other in the pain• choosing each each other in the plenty• eating animal crackers while watching Bourne trilogy• watching each other from across dance parties• roadtrips and plane rides by your side• “i wanna try something, want to do it with me?”•experimenting in the kitchen•cultivating consistent belonging• laughing at jokes from highschool• seeing fruit that was contended for• “the Lord has been faithful to us, he’ll still be faithful even now.”

happy anniversary, david nobles. growing up with you is a pleasure and a hoot.
can’t wait to discover the rest of this year’s wonder with you.:)

musings on the end to a season: PART 2
after snt graduation, our family took a little trip to a favorite place. it was a (very) brief trip to the midwest to see framily get married and spend a couple days in the valley.
it was our first big roadtrip as a family( it won’t be the last) and it was the first time my family got to experience the camp i grew up at in the summer.
ironically, this past year was marked by us being able to go back to my favorite places as a kid. and it’s a surreal feeling, watching your kids fall in love with the things that you grew up with.
the beach, the farm, the midwest, the camp, all these pieces of the mosaic that make up…me.. and what home looks like.
the morning songs i sing, the feeling of a favorite quilt, my favorite smell of grass in the morning or the beach at sunset, all these favorites came from somewhere.
and to see the kids’ faces light up when they saw the familiar? priceless. it was like a secret treasure between us.
i think this might be what living on this side of eternity feels like.
there are glimpses of the kingdom to come all around us. and when we see them(truly see them) it’s surreal.
and it’s almost as if the Lord winks in response and says,”the best is yet to come.”
~~~
this past season was defining home, belonging and rootedness. i’m walking into the next season with expectation. i don’t know what it holds(ok, i might have an idea or two😉) but i’m keeping my hands open, eyes focused, and heart ready for the new adventure.
may i never forget the wonder it is to call Jesus Lord and friend.
may i never lose what establishing home in rooted love looks like.
may i never forget to pass those simple truths onto the next generation.
