Before timelines, likes, comments and followers, we had the stoop. The original social media. 😂 It’s where u found out what was happening, heard stories, got advice, argued, laughed, learned and sometimes just sat there watching the world go by. Looking back, I realize how much of who I became was shaped by those conversations. We learned about life by actually living around each other. Nowadays we’re more connected than ever, but somehow we interact less. So maybe “touch grass” is really just a way of saying come outside. 😂 Put the phone down, feel the sun, talk to somebody, listen to a story that isn’t yours. Because community was never a place on a map…it was people choosing to sit close enough to hear each other. I’ve rapped about some real things because I lived some real things. The anger, the ego, the environment, the need to prove yourself—it was all real. But telling your story doesn’t mean u have to stay stuck in the chapter u came from. There’s a difference between reflecting the pain around u and projecting that pain back into the world. I had to learn that myself. Once I stopped asking the world to feel what I was going through and started asking myself why I was going through it, growth became possible. Our words carry weight, especially when somebody listening might be trying to figure out who they are. Speak your truth, tell your story, but leave some breadcrumbs toward the way out. Because the greatest testimony isn’t that u survived the fire… it’s that u learned how to carry the light without carrying the flames. 💡⬆️ #TomaTuesdays #Lightupp by @mrlightupp

The stoop 🌆🌃A place for thoughts, perspective, stories, and real conversations about this thing we call life. I’ve lived, I’ve learned, and I’m still learning, so Big Twin is just my way of sharing some of what the journey has taught me and hopefully inspiring y’all to share too. Pull up, bring a thought, ask a question, or just listen. We don’t always need the answers. Sometimes we just need the conversation. For a long time, I thought strength meant carrying everything without letting anybody see how heavy it was. Where I come from, especially as men, we’re taught to tough it out, hold it in, and never let anybody see us break. But some of my biggest growth came when I finally allowed myself to talk, cry, listen, and be vulnerable with people I trusted. I realized I wasn’t alone, and neither were they. Vulnerability didn’t make me weaker, it gave me somewhere to put the weight. So find somebody u can talk to. Find somebody u can cry with. Give the people u love permission to do the same. We weren’t meant to have all the answers by ourselves. Maybe sensitivity really is our divinity, because sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is soften enough to let the light in. And when we’re brave enough to share our darkness, we give each other enough light to find the way out - 💡⬆️ #TomaTuesdays #LightUpp #Salud by @mrlightupp

Before group chats, social media and everybody having a screen in their hand, we had the stoop 😂 Manhunt was one of those games that somehow brought the whole block together. We had our own rules, our own hiding spots, arguments about who cheated 😂 and somehow through all of it, we were learning how to communicate, make friends and actually know the people in our neighborhood. Looking back, I realize we weren’t just playing a game… we were building community without even knowing what that meant yet. I think we lost a little bit of that along the way. There’s so much keeping us connected today, but somehow we spend less time actually connecting. Maybe some things from the past don’t need to stay in the past. There was a point in my life where I had to choose between safety and purpose. I had an opportunity to take a great city job with sanitation, something stable that a lot of people would’ve been grateful for. But at the same time, music was finally gaining momentum, and something in me knew I had to give it everything I had. I chose the thing that gave me goosebumps. There were no guarantees. I just knew music had carried me through some of the hardest moments of my life, and I couldn’t turn my back on something that had never turned its back on me. That decision eventually took me places I could’ve only dreamed of—getting signed, touring, creating, and building a life around what I love. Safety can give u somewhere to stand, but purpose gives u somewhere to go. Whatever gives u those goosebumps, pay attention to it. Losing my mom changed the way everything felt. The air felt different. Food tasted different. Home felt different. Life itself didn’t feel like the same place anymore. There were moments this past year where I was at the lowest point I’ve ever known, and I understood how easy it could be to lose yourself in that kind of darkness. I held on. I chose healthier habits, I did the work, I faced the pain instead of running from it, and little by little I started finding myself again. Somehow, through all of that, I even found a new relationship with my mother. I can’t explain it perfectly, but I feel closer to her now. Grief changed me, but it didn’t destroy me. Some wounds don’t come from what happened to us. They come from what we never got to experience. Some of us grew up so busy surviving that we skipped parts of childhood without even realizing it. That’s why healing isn’t always about looking back with pain. Sometimes it’s about giving yourself permission to finally explore, laugh, dream, and experience the things life asked u to sacrifice too early. Watching my sister do that has been one of the most beautiful reminders that it’s never too late to meet the child inside u with the love they always deserved. Another lap around the sun. 🎉 Happy Birthday to me. I’m just grateful. Grateful to be here, grateful to be healthy, grateful for my family, and grateful for everyone who’s poured love into my life. Last year I buried my mother and thought I had reached my lowest point, but somewhere between the grief, the healing, prayer, therapy, and the people who never stopped believing in me, I found a stronger version of myself. This year taught me that peace is the real success. Protect your energy. Love your people. Keep working on yourself, even when nobody’s watching.
