Remember when a day off work wasn’t actually a day off? 🤣

It was spent standing on the sidelines at sports matches, driving the kids from one place to another, catching up on washing, food shopping and trying to squeeze a million things into a few precious hours.

All whilst juggling a full-time job and secretly dreaming of just ONE day to yourself.

Well, welcome to the empty-nesting chapter of life. ❤️

A whole day off. Nobody needing a lift. Nobody asking what’s for tea. Nobody’s timetable to work around. Just me, doing whatever I fancy.

And do you know what? It’s actually rather lovely.

But I also know that for those of you whose children have only recently flown the nest, a day like this might feel a little daunting. That silence you once longed for can suddenly feel very loud.

I promise you, it gets easier. You start finding your feet, making plans and rediscovering the little things that make YOU happy.

And whilst I’d give anything to relive some of those chaotic days when the kids were little, I’m also learning to love this new chapter.

We spent years making sure they had wonderful lives. Now it’s time to remember we’ve got one too. ❤️

AD | Gifted Experience 🪩❤️

52 years old, one Groove Armada DJ set and suddenly Chris and I think we’re 21 again! 😂

What an absolutely brilliant night in London, courtesy of @specsavers and their fabulous The Testlist event.

We danced, we laughed, we relived our clubbing days… and woke up the next morning with knees reminding us that we are, in fact, very much in our 50s! 🤣

But there was an important message behind all that dancing too. ❤️

As someone who wears hearing aids in both ears, looking after my hearing is something that’s particularly close to my heart.

Music has always been such a huge part of my life, and I certainly don’t intend to stop enjoying it just because I’m getting older!

That’s what I loved about The Testlist. It’s about celebrating our generation, the music we grew up with and making sure we look after our hearing so we can keep enjoying the things we love for years to come.

Because getting older doesn’t mean the fun has to stop.

We might be the original rave generation, but we’re certainly not ready to hang up our dancing shoes just yet! 🪩💃

Thank you @specsavers for such a fabulous evening.

To the parents who are finding this whole empty nesting thing a little harder than they expected… this one’s for you. ❤️

I know how strange it feels when the house suddenly goes quiet. When you’re so incredibly proud of them, but there’s a little part of you that wishes you could turn back the clock.

But I want to reassure you of something.

It gets easier. ❤️

You start to find your feet again. You make plans, discover new routines, enjoy a little freedom and slowly remember that there’s a whole life waiting for you outside of being Mum or Dad.

And the lovely thing? Your children are doing exactly what you raised them to do. Finding their way in the world.

So give yourself time. Be kind to yourself. And please don’t feel guilty about enjoying this next chapter.

Because one day you’ll realise that you’re not just watching them flourish.

You’re flourishing too. 🌸

And if you’re struggling today, please remember…

You won’t always feel the way you feel right now. ❤️

I honestly think these messages from our university kids might be my favourite thing on the internet right now! 🤣❤️

From the absolute chaos to the most random questions, the things they think to text us never fail to make me laugh. And I LOVE that you’re all sharing them with me! 😂

But do you know what else I love? Our kids are absolutely ace. ❤️

They’re out there finding their feet, figuring life out, making mistakes, solving problems (sometimes by texting Mum first 🤣) and learning how to be independent adults.

And yes, some of the questions make us wonder how on earth they’ve survived this long without us! 😂

But they’re having a go. They’re finding their way. And they’re doing us proud.

So here’s to our wonderful, slightly chaotic, occasionally clueless but absolutely brilliant kids. We’re raising a pretty fabulous bunch of young adults. 🥹❤️

Keep those messages coming because they genuinely make my day!

And remember, if they’re still texting us to ask the daftest questions, we’re clearly still needed! 🤣❤️

First year at uni and suddenly they’re sending you photos of meals they’ve cooked like they’re auditioning for MasterChef. 👩‍🍳🤣

And there we are, praising a plate of pasta like they’ve just earned a Michelin star! ⭐️

But there are bonuses to all this newfound independence… just wait until they come home for Christmas and offer to cook dinner! 🎄👏

Lily’s in her third year now and, to be fair, she can hold her own in any kitchen. She’s come a LONG way from the pasta and grated cheese days! 🤣❤️

Who else has watched their student go from barely being able to boil an egg to becoming quite the little chef? 😂

For years, so much of our lives revolved around raising them. School runs, clubs, packed lunches, washing, lifts, worrying, waiting up… and then suddenly, they don’t need us in quite the same way anymore. ❤️

And yes, that change can hurt. The quiet can take some getting used to.

But I’m starting to realise that an empty nest doesn’t mean an empty life.

There are places we haven’t visited yet. Trips we haven’t booked. Restaurants we haven’t tried. Music we haven’t danced to.

New hobbies, new friendships, spontaneous weekends and whole chapters we haven’t even thought of yet.

We spent years encouraging our children to go out there and build a life they love.

Maybe now it’s our turn too. ✨

This isn’t the end of the good bit. It’s the beginning of what comes next. ❤️
