Some book recs for my athletic girlies! A lot of girls in my class really like reading fiction and nonfiction that involves their sports, and here are a few options/favorites! #middlegradebooks #girlathlete by @mrsthenreads

The “I Survived” series is hugely popular, and here are some recommendations for students who love the series but are ready to move on to some more “difficult” books! #middlegradebooks #isurvived by @mrsthenreads

Even middle schoolers like a little magic and a little Disney in their books. Especially if they feel like it treats them like middle schoolers and not little kids. These are some of my most popular fairytales with a twist that my middle schoolers like! #middlegradebooks #fairytales #yabooks by @mrsthenreads

Thank you @hjenkinswrites for the copy of A Bad Hand! I really enjoyed reading it, and I think a lot of boys looking for their next read will enjoy it as well! The mix of Yakuza action, high school issues, and great character development really kept me hooked!! The market is a little empty for boys 13+(and girls) looking for an action-packed read, but I think A Bad Hand is a great option for this demographic! #yabooks by @mrsthenreads

Nonfiction is really popular with my students! About 2/3 students prefer it to other genres. Here are some great titles to recommend to your 8th graders. #nonfiction #middleschool #englishteacher by @mrsthenreads

Wings of Fire is a super popular series, but when you’ve finished it, her are some other books with dragons you should definitely check out!! #dragons #middlegradebooks by @mrsthenreads

It’s so much easier to talk about topics when you can do it through the medium of a book! I really appreciate a book that gets kids thinking about difficulties in their own lives. These books help open doors for conversations about technology with your kids!

The Kate In Between by @claireswinarski is a great title for those 8+. You can have conversations about bullying and viral fallout as it is about a girl who is videotaped in a viral moment where it looks like she is the hero, but she really was standing by as the classmate was being bullied.

Unplugged by @gordonkorman is a great 9+ book about giving up technology at a summer camp. What do you even do without technology?? And in try Korman fashion, he is able to weave a lot of humor and mystery into the story.

Accidental Tribes by @candicepascoal is perfect for those 13+ it has more grit than the previous titles, but it packs a lot into a very quick read. Ot has very authentic teen voices dealing with the online ecosystem and its ethics, AI, addictive games and more. It definitely is for an amazing laser crowd, but it has enough mystery and character to keep a reluctant reader hooked. #middlegrade #yabooks #technologyeducation by @mrsthenreads

Novels in Verse are hugely popular in my class along with survival novels. These two paw them together and are novels in verse about survival!!! My students seem to swallow them whole, and luckily once they speed through one, I have a bunch of other recs for them! by @mrsthenreads

Fantasy isn’t quite as popular in my shelves as it was when I was a teen, but these series are still hard to keep on my shelves and definitely transport kids to a world of magic!! #booksbooksbooks #fantasy #englishteacher by @mrsthenreads

A really popular series with my girls is Dork Diaries, but by 6th grade, a lot of girls (or their parents) are ready for them to start branching out!

The Taylors and its sequel by Jen Calonita have been a hit because it is a series that is very relatable to many girls!

Smile (and all Taina Telgemeier books) is anotger great one! It is a graphic novel which adds another layer of interest for reluctant readers to branch out!

The Moon Without Stars by Chanel Miller has some artwork (though less than Dork Diaries) and is a very heartfelt look at the complexities of being a seventh grader. by @mrsthenreads

There is something about the fall that makes me want a cozy mystery!! These books are all great with a little intrigue and a diverse group of boys and girls that is sure to appeal to any middle schooler! by @mrsthenreads
