I LOVE cider & travel so ive created a blog to record both! I rate out of 10. From NZ/Aotearoa
POSTS STORIES REELS
Spring is here (yay) & @morningcider.co has another #newciders (bigger YAY)!! Hard Ginger Beer 6%  Cloudy, still pour. Ginger tang, soft apple & a tiny tiny buzz on back of throat. No ginger smell. We enjoyed sipping away. It is quite dangerous at 6%, does not taste it 😎. Now to the big question - is it ginger enough for me???? Not quite, no lingering ginger zing = 6. @brewjaynz enjoyed & said it 'tasted like crystalised ginger' = 6.5. #ciderwithfriends #ciderlife #lovecider #nzcraftcider by @ms_guide_to_cider
Scrumpy is a #newcider from @honey_bandit_mead It is 8%!! But an easy sipper. Made using high tannin apples (so cider apples) & French rose yeast & oaked. Still, dry, vanilla smell (then abit yeasty as it warms). You can definitely taste the oak. @brewjaynz helped taste test & said he'd happily sip it all day! Wow. We gave it 7-7.5. Cute label. Found at Parnell farmers market & other markets & online. #ciderlife #lovecider #nzcraftcider #ciderwithfriends by @ms_guide_to_cider
"Tasting thru the ages" review We tried a cider from the 2022, 2025 & 2026 batches of The Cape from @langlangciderco. Fun experiment with friends @brewjaynz & @bhimlach 🍻 We were quite fascinated by the differences. Same apples from same orchard, same makers, same process. AND YET there was marked change in colour (not soo obvious in photos), smell, aftertaste, flavour! The only difference was the alcohol percentage - 2026 is 6%, others approx 4%. Overall we enjoyed the newly canned 2026 The Cape for it's appley & buttery notes that lingered. Yum. 7-7.5 #ciderexchangedownunder with @getontheciders #ciderlife #lovecider #craftciderau #ciderbffs by @ms_guide_to_cider
Nomad is a #newcider from @morningcider.co   5.5% Made for their new Chinese market, but luckily I got my hands on it! Made with heritage cider apples from Hawkes Bay, ie Frécan, Chisel Black & Sweet Alford. Is it Brut? No. Is it yummy. Yes. Sweetness retained without being overly sweet. Very appley. Enjoyed by everyone in a group of friends whose taste varies alot = it is well made. Dangerously easy to drink! 7 from all 🍻 #ciderlife #lovecider #nzcraftcider #ciderwithfriends by @ms_guide_to_cider
LOOK at these stunning can designs from @langlangciderco & #Ciderbff!!! Sooo happy to see the brand coming together after all the years listening to her plans & supporting virtually. 👏🏽❤️ I can't wait to try ... We've always debated cans vs bottles. I understand the cost (to purchase, to send etc) & access to a canning line are big deciders for makers. But for me, the ability to stack is priceless (you should see how many cans I have stored away 🤣). #ciderexchangedownunder @getontheciders #lovecider #craftciderau #ciderlife by @ms_guide_to_cider
We also visited @doublevisionbrewing on the way to airport. Great to see it busy.  I tried Sunburst 5%, which is an apple & passionfruit cider. Bubbly & clear. Hard to taste the passionfruit clearly, unless it was the odd aftertaste. 4 We also visited @rogueandvagabond which had @peckhamscider yay. #ciderlife #lovecider #ciderwithfriends #wellingtoncider @brewjaynz by @ms_guide_to_cider
Ciders of @beervananz Of course my first stop was to see Tim at @morningcider.co. Tried their newly canned Black = tastes even better than last year 🍻. @rudis_beer - Butterfly cider The colour is gorgeous from butterfly flower. More like a gin than cider, enjoyed = 6. Apparently available in cans from Nov. #newcider @bacon_brothers_co - Ken 4.2% Green apples, enjoyed, a pleasant medium. I assume this is their base cider & add flavours to make others. 5 newcider @bigmountainmead - Hopped peach cider Made using peach puree & apple juice with hops. Bubbly. Nice but hops detracts for me. 4 newcider @emersonsbrewery - Juicy 4.5% Pleasant apple cider, no frills, easy sipper. 5.5 newcider Other highlights - Beer smoothies from @onedropbrewingco - Pickled chips from @behemothbrewingcompany #ciderlife #lovecider #ciderwithfriends @brewjaynz by @ms_guide_to_cider
Recent visit to Wellington to see these icons! The beehive = part of our parliament @beervananz The famous bucket fountain with @brewjaynz & yes it did splash me! The art outside @te_papa our national museum by @ms_guide_to_cider
Welcime to the winter crumble series bought to you by @zefferdrinks & @mybarauckland!! Over the last 4 months, @brewjaynz & I have diligently been tasting! Here is the results: 1. Plum crumble Made with doris plum, apples & winter spices. Sweet undertones but the spices linger & keep it from getting too sweet. B = 8ish, M = 7 (combined score 14) 2. Pear & Ginger Crumble Smells nice. Touch of ginger in aftertaste that tingles but that disappears/softens as it warms. Sweet. B = 6, M = 5 (11) 3. Rhubarb & Apple Crumble Rhubarb is always a hard flavour to capture. But it's there quietly as it warms. V crumbly taste. V drinkable but did start to get too sweet for my end. Brucey (& special guest Dave) = 7. Me = 6 (13) 4. The famous Apple Crumble We have been waiting for this one! Zeffer stopped producing it much to the dismay of many. This IS the cider that brought me into the #craftcider fold!! Will it live up to our hyped? Assessment is, it isn't too sweet. Love the cinnamon. V drinkable! B = 7.5 & M = 8 cos havent had for soo long (WINNING score of 15.5!!!) All that remains to say is, @zefferdrinks bring back the apple crumble please 🙏 #lovecider #nzcraftcider #ciderlife #ciderwithfriends by @ms_guide_to_cider
Wild Ginger 6.2% by @elementalcidernz Almost a #newcider for me as only had wee taste at festival. Made with pear, ginger root, kawakawa leaves & touch of honey. #cidermum loves ginger & said "its pretty good". Wow a 8 from her but must be shared she reports! Love the ginger smell, the ginger flavour becomes stronger as it warms. Well balanced, it comes together nicely with a touch of something different (ie the kawakawa, which is peppery native plant). Very drinkable. 7.5 to 8. No wonder, it won 🏆 Champion Cider at the @nzciderfestival last year!!! Might be good mulled too 🤔 #ciderlife #lovecider #nzcraftcider by @ms_guide_to_cider
A crisp walk in McLeans Forest was made better by some cider! Ive only been lucky enough to try @lillies.lillies.lillies once before! And never in a can before! This is their House Cider 2 - 7%. Made with locally grown heritage apples, pears & quince. Naturally fermented until dry. I don't think we had the right conditions to drink this - typically I like to let these ones warm, to enjoy them more, but that wasn't happening in that temp 🤣. Will need to try again (what a problem 🤣). I enjoyed the unique flavour that quince brings. Definitely sour & heading to dry. 6.5. #ciderlife #lovecider #ciderwithfriends #christchurchcider #newcider @as4185_ @sebkung by @ms_guide_to_cider
This is us trying to find a spot to drink a #newcider at crowded @punkybrewsterchch the other weekend! Not a great photo but task achieved! 🍻 Punky was super bisy with the stout competition but we determined! Cherry Dragonfruit from @mountbrewingco My first drangonfruit cider!! Beaut colour. Fruity smell. Taste was more strawberry than cherry, perhaps the dragonfruit came at end with long lingering pleasant taste. A good one to share as it got sweeter the more you drunk. We enjoyed = Sebby gave it 7.5, me & Smithy 6. #ciderlife #ciderwithfriends #lovecider @sebkung @as4185_ by @ms_guide_to_cider
