March is Endometriosis Awareness month!
For a very, very long time I struggled monthly with severe bloating, cramps and more. I, also, had unexplained iron deficiency and as a result I was having iron infusions. I started with once a year then twice a year to once every three months. This was my life for a very long time.
Fast forward to 2021, an ultrasound was done and the gynaecologist suggested laparoscopy. She diagnosed endometriosis and other fibrous tissues. Life was good for a bit but iron deficiency continued.
Then 2023, all the symptoms returned and was worse than before. I was always bloating after food- saw another specialist!
Returned to the gynaecologist, she said there isn’t much that she can do for me- go on the pills and pain management.
I requested a second opinion- another ultrasound was ordered as well! He said the ultrasound doesn’t look good. Had the GP looked at it and, also, had my dad looked at it. A decision was made and I went with what was recommended. At the beginning of 2024, another surgery was done. The diagnosis were severe endometriosis and adenomyosis! Since the surgery, life is very different…no symptoms and no iron deficiency!
I am very grateful for my GP, my family and A/prof Alex Ades and his team!
This disease is not easy to understand! You know your body so find the right team to help you navigate the path to receiving the right care plan. So much joy, appreciation & love celebrating 50 years of Pat on the last weekend of November 🥰 The best big sister, aunty, cousin, friend - she does it all! Always striving for more (eldest child syndrome) and living life to the absolute fullest with no F’s given. How bloody amazing it is to be in your orbit, we are so lucky and blessed! I LOVE YOU 💕
