Awards season is murder on the ego. A rollercoaster. One minute you’re being snubbed (yet again) for the Best Actress BAFTA, the next you’re winning Best Radio Presenter and laffing it up with Britain’s finest political commentator (thanks very much @bpgpressguild ! Very nice!) But maybe, just maybe, the most meaningful awards are the ones we find along the way (in a skip, on the way home from the pub) and give to ourselves? by @msellene

I’m hugely excited to share with you the cover of my new book ‘SCREEN DEEP: How film and TV can solve racism and save the world’ This is what I’ve been working on for the past few years (and, in a way, for many years before that). It’s on sale from Feb 1st, but you can pre-order now from any online book store. And if you DO pre-order I will buy you a drink next time I see you in person to say thank you (Either a snakebite or an extra dirty martini. These are the only available options.) ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷🍸 by @msellene

What makes the archetypal leading man? Do you have a theory?

It's an entertaining question for @kermodedodge & @msellene to grapple with on this week's show.

Critic and broadcaster @christinanewland_ talks to Mark about the changing face of the Hollywood heartthrob, from the silent era's 'Latin lover’, Rudolph Valentino, to contemporary stars Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan and Glen Powell.

Ellen speaks to acclaimed casting director Susan Shopmaker @shopmaker, whose eye for talent has helped shape the careers of some of the hottest actors working today, including Jeremy Allen White, Riz Ahmed and Callum Turner.

And Ellen also talks to a real-life leading man - actor @therealjasonisaacs. Jason’s many celebrated roles have included Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, an Emmy-nominated turn in The White Lotus, and playing the archetypal leading man Cary Grant in the biographical ITVX series Archie.

Review of the Week: @hope.thefilm, dir. na.hong.jin

A hit at Cannes and reportedly the most expensive Korean film of all time, Na Hong-Jin’s new high-energy creature feature may be slightly unstructured but it’s a wild ride, writes Nerve film critic @msellene

Just doing my bit to keep America beautiful 🫡🇺🇸with a commentary on the new (UK debut) blu ray release of 1970 film JOE (John G. Avildsen) featuring Queen Susan Sarandon’s film debut and the dad from Everybody Loves Raymond (aka actually very serious and accomplished actor with good politics Peter Boyle). Siiiiiiiiiiiiiick. My interview with @ashleywalters hits newsstands today, in the latest issue of @empiremagazine ! Love a man who can make a film and pull off pink cashmere……ANIMOL (2026), Ashley Walters’ directorial debut is a fierce and beautiful achievement and his story to date is a great example of ‘what’s meant for you will come to you’, — even if you take the long and winding way round. 🤩🫶🏼🤩🫶🏼Can’t wait to see what he does next. (PS. If you know me, you know compliments come no higher than a comparison to Whoopi Goldberg)

Getting very into both zombie films and transcendental meditation atm, for which all thanks to @zcregger , writer-director of WEAPONS(2025) and BARBARIAN (2022), two of the scariest films I’ve ever seen. His new RESIDENT EVIL movie is in UK cinemas this weekend (Go and see it!!!!) and you can read my interview with him in today’s @guardian by @msellene

New presenter line up for The One Show looks pretty decent! 👀👀….. jk jk! @mikeskinnerltd has great taste, in both tequila and people. I knew that already, but was lovely to have it confirmed on Wednesday evening, via PATRÓN Re-Mastered: Live at the ICA when I got to meet Mike’s longtime friend and collaborator @murkagedave (whose new album ‘Brut Thoughts’ is so flipping good!) and the three of us had an illuminating chat about creative process, before Mike’s epic DJ set. Thanks to all the lovely people @patron @goodcultureinc @dh_pr and especially @bethlmorrison and @lemarq who made it such a special evening. ✨✨✨ taken in ICA Institute Of Contemporary Art by @msellene
