what a journey these past two years have been.

i came into this season knowing God was calling me into deeper maturity, but i did not yet understand what that would require of me. somewhere between teaching, creating, grieving, stretching, releasing, rebuilding, and learning how to use my voice, He was transforming me from the inside out.

i had the honor of teaching young Black women not only about dance, but about womanhood: navigating overstimulation, discipline, stewardship, softness, truth, accountability, and presence. while also navigating unexpected family challenges, relationships, obedience, and living inside of answered prayers, God remained faithful through it all.

through residencies, performance opportunities, TEDx Alabaster, choreographic opportunities across campus, and opportunities like young choreographers festival, God continued to remind me that there is still more ahead.

this season required me to release identities that no longer belonged to me, including the decision to renounce sigma gamma rho sorority, incorporated, as i continued pursuing deeper obedience to God and who He is calling me to be. i’m grateful for the women who showed me grace, compassion, and prayer throughout that process.

somehow, God restored the time too.

We are excited to announce @mseryncade as a dance artist performer for @tedxalabaster 2026. Eryn is an interdisciplinary dance artist and research-based choreographer whose work speaks where words cannot. An Assistant Professor of Dance at Alabama State University, she holds a BFA and MFA in Dance from the University of Alabama, where her research on the Black female body and the colonial gaze earned an Artistic Achievement Award. She is a finalist for the Young Choreographers Festival, with work presented at the Joyce Theater in New York City.

Her performance career spans concert and commercial stages, including international work in Toulouse, France, and appearances at the 2022 World Games alongside artists such as Tony! Toni! Toné!, Bootsy Collins, and Sheila E. taken in Shelby County Arts Council by @mseryncade

Dance, the art.

I committed to this concept at the end of 2025 while I was thinking of things that I wanted to work on for the upcoming year. I knew that I didn’t just want to take pretty pictures, I wanted to show the real story of the sacrifice. The actual meaning of “pretty hurts”, the hours, the passion, and the balance between strength and beauty. Pretty faces, bruised legs, and battered feet chasing perfect positions and flawless motions. The costs of expression, but a price worth paying for an artist.

I’d like to thank Professor Eryn Cade, MFA for taking time out of her busy schedule after a couple of months of aligning schedules, planning locations, etc… Hopefully, I was able to bring some value to you and your community through my work.
