It’s my birthday tomorrow! And nothing says Happy Birthday like pre-ordering my book.

This book is the culmination of more than a decade of reporting that started with trying to understand the roots of climate denial in the fossil fuel industry and led to a journey trying to understand how corporations in general warped the information ecosystem to circumvent democracy. There’s no way out if we don’t understand how we got here; my hope is that this book will inspire folks to clean up their information diet and reclaim their sovereignty.

It’s not that one industry does it and then another copies so much as it is that oligarchs have used the same strategies to get around democracy forever and a whole system of enablers has been built to help them do it. by @msidatarbell

Never forget that the original influencers were called "4 Minute Men" 😂

For real though! Influential local leaders were recruited to join this initiative and their job was to give 4-minute speeches in support of the U.S. joining WWI and try to encourage donations of all kinds to the effort. It was part of a larger propaganda effort from the Committee on Public Information, also known as the Creel Committee, which consisted of artists, filmmakers, journalists, and propagandists (who later rebranded as PR experts) all working together to sell this idea.

I've spent the last 20 years gathering documents from archives to put together the history of modern propaganda, which very much stems from the U.S. and has a LOT to do with the moment we currently find ourselves in. That story is woven together in my book Brought To You By, but gonna start sharing little treasures here too. by @msidatarbell

I wrote a book about corporate propaganda and now I have to use the same tactics I wrote about to try to sell this thing. Come to the @bellhouseny show with @climatetown tonight for a wildly embarrassing report on how it’s going. Pictured here:
