#WhyIDance 🧡 with @bostonballet principal Lia Cirio (@msliac)

“After a dance career of 20 years, it would be easy to wax poetic about the indescribable magic I feel onstage or in the rehearsal studio,” writes Cirio. “While there are moments when it truly feels like a dream come true, the reality is that there are countless times when the magic fades, and the difficulties of this career become almost overwhelming.“

Head to the link in our bio for the full article.

Media description: Lia Cirio onstage wearing a light blue leotard and skirt poised in a retiré with her arms extended side. Text reads: Now, as a senior member of the dance world, I am not driven by obsession. I am drawn to art and art makers who push the way I think and how I view the world, and who can help develop my artistry. I no longer strive for technical perfection, but instead ask myself: Do my performances and my dancing touch someone?

Thank you @elevedancewear! We love our new fits from their “Final Bow” Collection.
I particularly love the Diana Biketard in Twilight paired with the Open Shoulder Crop Top… they are a perfect complement to the bump 🤍

The twins aren’t even here yet and somehow they already have better toys than I do 😂🤍Thank you, @Lovevery, for thinking of us and our two little ones! 🤍

We had so much fun opening our Lovevery Looker Play Kit and doing a little adult testing before our two little testers arrive. I love how thoughtfully each toy is designed for baby’s development…and they’re just so beautiful, too. 🥹

Our #WCW? Principal Dancer Lia Cirio, who is taking the stage for three in Akram Khan’s Vertical Road (Reimagined) 2023 🧑‍🧑‍🧒

"Vertical Road, for me, has always been a piece about the journey and one that tests you. Akram Khan’s choreography and dramaturgy require your full body and soul. It pushes you past your threshold, and if you trust it, it takes you to unforgettable moments, both on and off stage.

Being able to embark on this journey now, as a mother-to-be with two lives inside me, has become such a gift.

The layers of meaning within Vertical Road are vast. I have grown in so many different ways since the last time we danced it, and my personal story within the piece has evolved. Because of this and because of the precious lives I carry, being able to share my own meaning on stage with the people watching feels quite remarkable.

I can’t wait for the day Paul and I get to share a video of Vertical Road with our twins in person… our whole family on stage together. Our little warriors 🥰💪🏽💪🏽" -Lia Cirio

It’s theater week and I can’t believe I’ve come this far. 18 weeks pregnant and grateful to be dancing Akram’s Vertical Road again on Opening Night and Sat Eve this week. It has been a journey and challenge for sure but this time… with life inside me… it’s brought a whole different meaning and has been such a gift. Couldn’t have made it here without the people surrounding me and cheering me on. We are ready for the shows! Let’s go family! RISE🤲✋
