New York has been engraved in my life experiences. I have enjoyed being able to show up as my authentic self here in Richmond. The New Yorker in me thrives in my new environment.

An evening where art, conversation, and community came together.

It was an honor to photograph this powerful exhibition featuring Dwayne Brown, founder of Brownstract Art Studio. His large-scale abstract works transform layered textures, reclaimed materials, and acrylic paint into explorations of perception, atmosphere, and emotion.

Having lost vision in one eye during childhood, Dwayne creates through energy, intuition, and feeling—demonstrating that limitations don’t have to diminish our purpose; sometimes, they help sharpen it.
The room was filled with color, meaningful conversation, genuine connection, and people experiencing the work in their own unique ways. These photographs capture just a glimpse of that energy.
Congratulations to Brownstract on an inspiring exhibition and a beautiful celebration of creativity and resilience.
