Creating ‘Traffic Jam’: A Collaborative Abstract Art Journey

We talk about how my husband challenged me to paint despite my lack of drawing skills, and we created an abstract piece together called ‘Traffic Jam’ that symbolizes our marriage—bringing together two different worlds from Brooklyn and Jersey.

An evening where art, conversation, and community came together.

It was an honor to photograph this powerful exhibition featuring Dwayne Brown, founder of Brownstract Art Studio. His large-scale abstract works transform layered textures, reclaimed materials, and acrylic paint into explorations of perception, atmosphere, and emotion.

Having lost vision in one eye during childhood, Dwayne creates through energy, intuition, and feeling—demonstrating that limitations don’t have to diminish our purpose; sometimes, they help sharpen it.
The room was filled with color, meaningful conversation, genuine connection, and people experiencing the work in their own unique ways. These photographs capture just a glimpse of that energy.
Congratulations to Brownstract on an inspiring exhibition and a beautiful celebration of creativity and resilience.

This past weekend was a reminder of why I love this city and the people in it.

It was an honor to support my longtime friend, @mslorijoe , and celebrate her husband Dwayne Brown owner of @brownstractart as he debuted his incredible collection at the Brownstract Art Show. Watching our community come together to support local talent, share stories, and celebrate creativity was truly inspiring. It was great catching up with everyone.

Congratulations Dwayne on a phenomenal debut!

At @iconcommercial_rva we're passionate about highlighting the people, stories, and partnerships that make our community stronger.

As part of our ongoing effort to spotlight entrepreneurs and community leaders, our own @thecolbykay joined @mikekingbiz for a conversation with fellow VCU Rams alum and executive coach @mslorijoe of LGB Coaching & Leadership Development. Together, they discussed the importance of entrepreneurship, community, and the upcoming Brownstract Art Show.

In this clip, Lori shares why this event is so meaningful and why you won't want to miss it.

Join us this Friday, July 10th, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Main Street Station as artist Dwayne Brown owner of @brownstractart debuts his latest collection. He'll also be in conversation with fellow artist Faithe Norrell (@faithenorrell), sharing the inspiration behind his work and his remarkable journey.

We're excited to support this event and continue creating opportunities to celebrate local entrepreneurs, artists, and changemakers.

We'll see you there, and stay tuned for more conversations from Icon Commercial!

Still reflecting on yesterday’s Kingdom Business Symposium.

It was an honor to share the stage with some amazing leaders and pour into business owners ready to grow. We talked about real world AI strategies that can save time, increase productivity, and help businesses move faster starting right now.

Thank you to Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries for the opportunity to speak and serve. The conversations, connections, and energy in the room were truly special.

When faith meets business and innovation, great things happen.
