We are excited to say we’re once again looking for students and graduates who would like to co-run a table at:

Bound Art Book Fair
October 31st - November 1st 2026
at The Whitworth, Manchester

Selected applicants will showcase their own publications at the fair, and work together to plan a cohesive set up for the weekend to platform and sell work.

Follow the link in our bio to apply!

One student from last years cohort had this to say about their experience at Bound:

“The Bound Art Book Fair RISE course has been a really valuable experience, allowing me to re-interpret my practice and situate my work in a publishing context. Usually I find the first semester to be fairly slow in terms of my making process, however working on my publication for Bound gave me a goal to work towards during the first few months back on campus after summer. I learnt so much from working alongside George and Lisa and the other students on the table, spending time with people from different courses within MSoA. Following on from Bound I have been published and paid for my writing via a connection that I made at the book fair. Overall I feel that the Bound Art Book Fair RISE course has noticeably enriched my creative network in Manchester.”

Please apply with the following info:

❤️ Your name, course and year group, or date of graduation.

❤️ Information about the book / zine project you would like to bring to the fair.

❤️ Link to documentation of your previous work (websites or instagrams welcome).

❤️ A short paragraph about why you’d like to be involved in set up and running of the table.

❤️ Whether you’re available for initial meet ups in October.

❤️ Whether you’re available to run the stall at October 31st - November 1st.

Students and graduates from all courses and backgrounds are welcome to apply 🙏 taken in Whitworth Art Gallery by @msoa.printmaking.bookbinding

RISO-CYCLED BONE FOLDERS: now in the @mcrschart workshop! 🦴✨

For the last couple of years we’ve been trying to reduce our waste in the bindery, including the amount of plastic tubes and inky masters sheets that come with running two risograph printers. Queue the brilliant @hnnhwhtwrth — Hannah worked with the @manmetelectrochemistry department last year, who are repurposing plastic waste in house and designing new methods of waste reduction through 3D printing. Together they have turned our riso tubes and masters into bone folder tools using an inject moulding technique, to be tested by students at the art school to make zines and artist books this term 🌱📗

Big thank you to Hannah, Dr Robert Crapnell and the electro chemistry team at @manmetuni, plus our bookbinding technicians Lisa Lorenz (@somuchtoanswer) and George Gibson (@georgegracegibson) for their ideas and support💡🦴💫

🔎 Close ups from ⚡️ Energy, Currency, Nicolas Cage ⚡️; a collaborative risograph publication made in 48 hours last week with students of this years Self Publishing Summer School, led by @somuchtoanswer + me 💕✨

The publication is based off a manifesto written by the summer school cohort ~ it features pop up pages and fold out sections; tiny craft knife cut doorways; multiple identity crises; an entire calendar; a love letter to an actor (I wonder who); poems that are rubber stamped, typed, collaged, handwritten, embossed; a bootleg nic cage cameo inspired by a sticker on the workshop’s printer. Edition of 30 ~ just for workshop participants and the archive 🥳

I’ve Forgotten Fieldfare, Hand Crafted Portfolio Box 2026

I’m excited to share my handcrafted portfolio box showcasing a series of prints and a booklet of poems as a part of my degree show project ‘I’ve Forgotten Fieldfare’ 2026.

I believe this is my biggest and proudest achievement. I couldn’t have done it without @msoa.printmaking.bookbinding

I’ve learnt a lot from the bookbinding process but one thing I would say (and I’ve learnt this the hard way) is that bookbinding/box making involves way more maths than you could ever imagine!

I wanted to create a holding-space dedicated to showcase a very vulnerable piece of work and by presenting my work in a very inclosed way it felt only right.

I challenged myself massively with this project, having to create a dummie portfolio box to test my vision, which I relied upon greatly during the real production of my now-portfolio box.

Once again, I truly am grateful that @mmu.photography has the ability to help students with this interest, like me. This piece took me around 40 hours to make (a whole week in bookbinding) and I really couldn’t have done it without the support.

Thank you to @jakemiller.photography and @_be_muse for taking the time to photograph my work, allowing me to share with everyone!

Thank you ☺️

Project Statement:

“Rooted in the loss of Jemma Beaven’s childhood homes, I’ve Forgotten Fieldfare reflects on how domestic spaces shift through experience and time. The work explores presence and absence, tracing how memory gradually erodes these once-familiar environments. Working across photography and installation, Beaven uses string as a fragile marker to process spaces that can no longer be returned to. These forms attempt, yet ultimately fail, to reconstruct what has been lost. The room is considered as something that once held her presence, now defined by its absence. Through her brother Zac, shared experiences are reframed through differing recollections, complicating any fixed understanding of place. The project becomes cyclical, assembling new absences while negotiating the tension between holding on and letting go.”
