🐔 Service Tech Poultry Health Workshop
Mississippi State University Department of Poultry Science and MSU Extension hosted the Service Tech Poultry Health Workshop on August 27 in Mendenhall, MS, with more than 65 poultry integrator live production employees participating.
Participants received practical training in bird anatomy (Dr. Isabella Hannay, PRDL), chick quality (Dr. Sue Ann Hubbard, Professional Poultry, LLC), common diseases (Dr. Tim Cummings, Zoetis), and laboratory submission (Dr. Natalie Manginsay, PRDL), with hands-on wet lab activities accompanying each topic.
Thank you to our sponsors, speakers, industry partners, and participants for making the workshop a success! The program was also approved for 4 hours of PAACO Continuing Education Credits.

Dr. Pratima Adhikari chaired and hosted the symposium, "Nutrition and Management Strategies for an Extended Laying Cycle," at the 2026 Poultry Science Association (PSA) Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada.

The symposium featured distinguished speakers from North America and around the world, who shared the latest research and insights on genetics, nutrition, physiology, health, and management strategies supporting the development of "long-life" laying hens capable of producing 500 eggs over a 100-week laying cycle.

Poultry Judging at Pinebelt 4-H Camp!

On July 14th, campers at Pinebelt 4-H Camp got to put their judging skills to the test! From learning parts of a bird to holding cute chicks, campers got hands-on experience and learned more about the world of poultry.

Learning All About Chicken Breeds!

On July 6th, we had a great time at Lincoln Ag Camp learning all about different chicken breeds! Campers got to play a breed matching game, learn all about different types of breeds, see chicks hatch, and even play a cute game of who can "create" the best breed!

Exciting news for the Department of Poultry Science here at MSU and the future of the animal food industry!

The American Feed Industry Association’s Equipment Manufacturers Committee has selected MSU as the eighth university to receive a $5,000 annual scholarship supporting undergraduate students pursuing careers in the animal food industry.

This investment comes at an exciting time as we move forward with our new poultry feed mill. This facility will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in feed manufacturing while strengthening partnerships between MSU and industry.

We are incredibly grateful to AFIA, the Equipment Manufacturers Committee, IFEEDER, and the industry professionals whose generosity makes opportunities like this possible. Supporting our students today means investing in the knowledgeable, skilled leaders who will shape the future of animal agriculture tomorrow.

A special thank-you to Dr. Kelly Wamsley for her continued leadership and dedication to building meaningful connections between our students, department, and the feed industry. This is another exciting step forward for MSU Poultry Science!

We had such an EGG-cellent time at Poultry Discovery Camp!
