NAACP Image Award winning filmmaker Winter Dunn returns as our Pre Production Supervisor!

Based in Los Angeles, Winter’s films have screened at major festivals including SXSW and Tribeca Film Festival. She has been selected for prestigious directing programs including NBCU Launch, Film Independent’s Project Involve, Ryan Murphy’s HALF Initiative, and the SONY Pictures Diverse Directors Program.

Her digital directing work for Vanity Fair, Vogue, Architectural Digest, Anonymous Content, Meta, and more has featured talent including Viola Davis, Sarah Paulson, Danai Gurira, Kim Kardashian, and Billie Eilish.

Award winning filmmaker and producer Yhá Mourhia Wright returns for her 5th year with BGFC and 4th year as Production Supervisor!

Through YháWright Productions, her credits include Chocolate with Sprinkles, winner of the 2024 HBO Short Film Competition at ABFF and a 2025 NAACP Image Award nominee; Missing Rhythms; Don’t Be Desperate; and the Amazon Prime Video series LoveMyRoomie.

Named one of The BLK Script’s “35 Rising Filmmakers You Should Know” in 2026, Yhá Mourhia continues to create, produce, and equip the next generation of filmmakers.

Film editor, filmmaker, and art curator Chassidy Jade returns as our Post Production Supervisor!

With more than 15 years of experience, Chassidy made history as the first female Senior Editor for the NBA’s 2020 Bubble season. Her career includes work with Parallax Post LA, and her latest credits include ESPN, ALLEN IV3RSON, and Sinners.

Before June 23rd, 2026,
THE VANGUARD didn’t exist.

No script. No characters. No world. No team.

Just an idea.

And now… this.

In less than three months, an idea became pages. Pages became conversations. Conversations became collaborators. And collaborators began bringing an entire world to life.

We haven’t even shot the film yet.

But there’s something special about this part — watching something become real in real time.

A glimpse behind the scenes of our first visual shoot for THE VANGUARD, and the incredible people helping build this world one piece at a time.

June 23rd → now.

And we’re just getting started.

Yhá Mourhia Wright announces that the award-winning comedic short film Don’t Be Desperate, starring D. Woods, is streaming free on YouTube for a limited time before its streaming debut. The film is now available on OG Network, Kweli TV, multiple Roku FAST channels, and iWoman TV. The free YouTube window is open now and will close soon. Free. Limited. Yours.

Don’t Be Desperate is a quirky but honest exploration into the colorful imagination of Aliyah Stanbeck, a woman in her late 30s who is a hopeless romantic with her head in the clouds but grounded by the fears of her “ticking clock.” The official logline: an imaginative and anxious singer receives life-changing news on the eve of her first performance in years, forcing her to confront her deepest desires and her worst fears.

Since its 2022 premiere, Don’t Be Desperate has built a real track record. It was an Official Selection at the Hip Hop Film Festival in 2022 and the Newark International Film Festival in 2022, won the Independent Spirit Award at the 2023 Detroit Black Film Festival, and earned an Outstanding Music nomination at the 2023 Micheaux Film Festival, one of the most respected stages in Black independent film. It also aired nationally on Aspire TV. Music sits at the center of the story, anchored by the original song “Don’t Leave Me,” written by Wright, and a score by Nolan Mersier.
