Hosted by Villa Heike Berlin, the International Limited-Residency MFA in Photography program at the Hartford Art School / University of Hartford (US) is pleased to present “Long Enough To Tie My Shoe”, an exhibition featuring the work of eleven master students from the class of 2027.

Curated by Robert Lyons @ralfoto, with advice by Michael Vahrenwald @mvahrenwald and Chikara Umihara @chikaraumihara, this exhibition features in-progress work by first-year MFA students in the program:

Charlotte Straus @mt.charsuvius is a photographer based in Nashville, TN. She received her BA in Studio Art with a focus in Photography from Lewis & Clark College in 2020. Her work examines the delicate tension between humans and the natural world in an ongoing effort to understand our place within the landscapes we inhabit and alter. taken in Hartford Art School by @mt.charsuvius

The big life update is here! I'm majorly stoked and honored to be joining @hartfordphotomfa class of 2027!!! 🤩💌🎉📸💯🔥

This has been in the works for so long, almost five years now, but over the past two years I have been putting together a portfolio, preparing my applications, interviewing, receiving offers and finally choosing a program. This process has been extremely humbling, beautifully validating and nerve-wracking all at once. I applied to a total of 6 schools (University of Hartford, University of New Mexico, University of Oregon, Rhode Island School of Design, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Yale), heard back from 5, was accepted to 3 (Hartford, RISD, and RIT). I think making a decision on which program to attend was maybe the hardest aspect of it all. Each program that I was accepted to is so unique and I could see myself succeeding at each one. Ultimately I'm excited to join the incredible community of like-minded photographers associated with the program at Hartford. Stay tuned because there will be so much more to come!
