Family, school, bad vibes, cities, prejudice, jobs, faith, furniture, individualism: What have you had to leave behind? In Playback Theatre, you share stories that we “play back” with our ensemble of actors and musicians. In this performance, we’re exploring our stories of leaving. This is theatre improvisation like you have never seen before. We weave our stories together – not knowing where we will end up, except possibly with a better sense of what it means to be human on this fragile, beautiful planet. What people have said about our shows: “The performers had an amazing ability to understand the core emotions of the stories shared and express that in their performance with artistic sensitivity.” “It was a true sense of community and opportunity to be seen and to see others’ stories.” “Every time I leave feeling uplifted, connected and not alone.” We hope you’ll come (because everyone has a story). The Department of Technology Enhanced Learning at MTU is pleased to invite you to the next talk in the MTU GenAI Seminar Series. The seminar will take place online on Thursday, October 29th at 2.00 pm (Irish time). All are welcome. For this session, we’re delighted to be able to welcome Professor James O Sullivan from University College Cork (UCC), who will give a talk entitled “National Policy for Generative AI in Higher Education — now what?” The publication of the Higher Education Authority's national policy framework marked an important step in the sector's response to generative AI. Drawing on his work leading the development of the framework, James will discuss the thinking behind the policy, its core principles, and what implementation means for assessment, academic integrity, AI literacy, governance and institutional accountability. He will also consider how Irish higher education can now move beyond reactive responses towards more coherent and sustainable approaches to generative AI. James is Professor of Digital Culture and Cultural Analytics at UCC. From 2024 to 2026, he served as the HEA’s Teaching and Learning Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence, leading the development of its 2025 national framework. James's talk takes place online via Zoom, and is open to all. Coming together to support digital media literacy and wellbeing. Last Friday, 9 October, staff, students, and guests gathered at MTU Bishopstown to launch our SATLE-funded Digital Media Literacy Open Educational Resource, supported by the Higher Education Authority. Developed collaboratively by academic and library staff, students and digital media experts, the resource helps people question what they see online, recognise misinformation and reflect on their digital wellbeing. Professor Christine Cross opened the event by highlighting the importance of digital media literacy and wellbeing, while Colin Lowry shared the HEA/SATLE perspective and the resource’s role nationally. Keynote speaker Ciara Mulcahy Linehan explored the role universities must play in supporting these skills, and Dr Oonagh O’Brien led discussions on digital wellbeing and policy development. A special thank you to the project team, Dr Catherine Palmer, Michelle Power, Michael Costello, Colm O’Rourke and Sarah Patterson, and to the students and expert contributors who helped shape the resource. Thank you also to everyone who contributed to the roundtable discussions and shared ideas to inform the next steps at MTU. This week, coverage in the Irish Independent and Irish Tech News brought the resource and the research behind it to a wider audience, helping extend this important conversation beyond the university. The resource is open to everyone. Whether you are a student, educator, parent, or simply interested in understanding the online world, we invite you to explore it, share it, and consider how it could support you or your community. 🔗 Explore the resource through MTU Library https://library.cit.ie/supports/responsible-study 🔗 Access it through HEA OpenCourses .ie https://opencourses.ie/opencourse/digital-media-literacy-build-the-skills-to-question-what-you-see-online/ by @mtu_info
