What nobody tells you about starting a food business... This week I learned that making a great recipe and building a food brand are two completely different things. I started with my mother's recipe, Feijão da Angelina, thinking the biggest challenge would be getting people to like it. I was wrong. After speaking with manufacturers and industry contacts, I'm learning about shelf life, food safety, dehydration, packaging formats, commercial sterilisation and product testing. One conversation changed my perspective completely. A manufacturer explained that fresh onions, garlic and herbs can create shelf-life challenges because of the moisture they introduce. What works perfectly in a home kitchen doesn't always work in commercial production. At first I felt frustrated. Then I realised this is what progress actually looks like. A year ago I was asking: "Can I turn my family's recipe into a business?" Today I'm asking: "How do I manufacture this safely and consistently at scale?" Different question. Different level. The journey is slower than I expected, but every conversation, every event, every piece of feedback is moving Mucuaa forward. I'm grateful to everyone helping me learn what I don't know. The goal remains the same: To bring authentic Angolan flavours to more people while honouring the recipe and story behind Feijão da Angelina/ 🫘 beans stew Building in public. Learning in public. Growing in public. #Mucuaa #FoodStartup #Entrepreneurship #AfricanFood #SmallBusiness by @mucuaa_

Yesterday 17/8/26 the ukbbshow at ExCeL London, we experienced a massive wave of emotion. The crowd was electric, all waiting for the retail queen herself, Emma Grede. Even though the private meet-and-greet was completely sold out, we made sure we listen and absorb every ounce of her keynote. Looking at her on that stage, one quote on the screen hit home for us: “You just need to make something that exists better. When opportunity comes you’re ready ♥️ That is exactly what we are doing at Mucuaa. Born in Angola, living in London, we are taking our farmer mother Angelina’s traditional, slow-cooked family bean stew—strictly with no added sugar and 100% plant-based—and scaling it into modern retail shelves. We brought our kitchen testing samples to the venue, ready to show the world that heritage flavours belong in the premium market. Emma, your journey with Good American and SKIMS is the ultimate blueprint for us as global founders. London is ready for clean-label, high-protein African heritage. We are currently locking in our new production kitchen in Croydon, and the retail pouch launch is officially in motion. Huge box arrived at Mucuaa this morning... and suddenly everything feels a little more real. 🫂 These jars represent the next step in our journey. For years, we proudly served fresh, home cooked food at Surrey Street Market in Croydon. Now we're taking the first steps towards bringing Angelina's traditional Angolan recipes into homes in a new way. This is our honest product development phase. These jars will be used for our first community tasting samples as we gather feedback, learn, improve and continue building Mucuaa together. ❤️ Every recipe is inspired by Angelina, whose cooking, farming heritage and love for family sit at the heart of everything we do. 🌱 Slow-cooked 🌱 Clean label 🌱 No added sugar 🌱 Inspired by tradition We're currently preparing our new production kitchen in Croydon and working towards the next stage of our journey. Thank you for supporting us from market stall to brand. This is only the beginning. 💛 Angelina's Recipe. My heart is heavy today. 💔😪 Watching Benguela my hometown, my memories, my people underwater is something I never imagined I would see. To every family who has lost their home, their belongings, or their loved ones… you’re not alone. Even from far away, we feel your pain, we carry you in our prayers, and we stand with you. To the Angolan diaspora: we may be scattered across the world, but our hearts are rooted in the same soil. When Benguela hurts, we all hurt. If you’re asking how to help, here are trusted organisations supporting families in Angola: – Cruz Vermelha de Angola (Red Cross) @cva.angola – UNICEF Angola @unicefangola – SOS Children’s Villages Angola @aldeiasosangolaofficial Every contribution big or small makes a difference. Benguela is strong. Our people are strong. We will rise again, together. --- 🇵🇹 Versão em Português Hoje o meu coração está pesado. Ver Benguela a minha terra, as minhas memórias, o meu povo debaixo de água parte-me a alma.
