Contrary to what my t shirt said, i definitely played some bangers in this.. Back in my home city and paid a visit to @blooplondon for a 2 hour show. With being back in London, I decided to do a different type of show to what i normally play and honed in on the sounds that really inspired me to get into the rabbit hole of djing/buying records and also just instantly remind of this wonderful city. Made my way through UKG and some bassy/breaksy stuff before finishing on some dnb. Some of the records I haven’t played in years and you can tell, as they have more pops and crackles than King Charles. The Mudbrain release series launches with ‘Wave Agent EP’ by South London’s Ollie Drummond. 1. Perpetual Moleman 2. Le Goonz (Featuring Jake Beautyman) 3. Wave Agent ‘Perpetual Moleman’ is a layered, peaktime tech house roller. ‘Le Goonz’ which features Jake Beautyman brings sunrise energy with progressive synths and an emotive breakdown. ‘Wave Agent’ is a stripped back loopy house groove that slides effortlessly into warm ups or afters. Currently this release is only available digitally but there are plans for a vinyl release in the future for the wax heads. We wanted to share a few tunes that resonate with us at Mudbrain and more specifically, tunes that remind us of fond dancefloor memories The Mingers - Emancipation (The Mingers Button Dub) We made the last minute decision to roll to a fabric continuum session after watching Pangaea shell it at Corsica, neither of us can remember who was playing but they played this at about 7am and it was the first time either of us had heard it. Old tech house and room 1 just seem to go together perfectly, if you asked us to sum up the room 1 sound then we would pick this tune. Rollin Gear - I, I know (Beats Mix) 2 hours into Jeff Mills melting our minds at Dekmantel’s Loop stage. We made the difficult decision to close out our final hours of the festival watching Luca Lozano and Mr Ho tear up the garden stage. We lost our shit when this one dropped. Proper party starter business! Moloko - Sing it back ( Herbert’s Tasteful Dub) The night was very much in full flow at Love Internationals beach stage, one of our favourite DJ’s Prosumer drops this cult classic remix from Herbert. A crowd in the mood for a party with the Adriatic ocean as the backdrop, big moment. @roo.dj_ is a DJ we hold in high regard here at Mudbrain, we’ve known her for the best part of 7 years and it’s been great to watch her on her journey. We can’t wait to see what she brings next Friday. We asked her some questions below about what’s in her bag atm, swipe through to have a listen. A record that never leaves your bag Tropical Moon - Love Is a Mystery (1990) A brilliant all round EP, this one is always in my bag. In particular, I love to play ‘Jungle House’ which is on the more dark and moody flip side of the record which features delicious percussive rolls and haunting cries to bring out dancers’ animalistic sides on the floor.   A recent favourite dig you’ve picked up: View Finder - View Finder EP (1995) What’s DJing all about? For me it’s taking people on a journey. I picked this one up a couple of months back and ‘Throw Back’ on the A side is what I would call the antithesis of the ‘instant gratification’ people have come to expect on the dancefloor. It teases you with its sultry acid lines and percussive elements which rise and fall across the track. Definitely a track to really get in the zone with.   Opening Track Knew Family - Carried Away (1992) I’ve been on opening duties for a lot of great names in the past year such as Bradley Zero and Giles Smith which (I like to think) has helped me to understand how to set up a dancefloor. I usually start with downtempo around the 100 bpm mark and slowly build up the tempo across the set. I think ‘Carried Away’ is a perfect track to play early in the set, although I do swiftly take it out before the ravey stabs occur 5 minutes in! Youtube uploads tend to play it at 45rpm but I prefer the original. taken in Low Profile Studios by @mudbrain_records

Back on home soil with a mix for our monthly show on @blooplondon My turntables have been in storage for the past few months and I haven’t had much access to spinning wax so was a bit unsure how this would go but it ended up probably being my favourite bloop show yet, despite one technical issue with the needle on the first wax track I play only coming out of the left side, they are never ‘perfect’ are they.. Mixture of moody rollers, 90s tech house and some garage waft with some nice longer blends and also some quick choppy transitions.
