Exhilarated to celebrate that my first book chapter was published!!! 💃🏿🎉🎊 The book is "Activating Arts To Understand Disability In Africa: Inclusive Explanations". Incredibly grateful to the editors: Charlotte Baker, Elvis Imafidon, Kobus Moolman & Emelda Ngufor Samba; for selecting my abstract, and later my book chapter for publication. Deeply thankful to @routledgebooks for publishing the book. Special thanks go to Kobus Moolman for informing me of this opportunity and for being my personal editor elevating my work; as well as Charlotte Baker for revising the piece, so it shines!

For those who might be wondering why I'm celebrating a book chapter, when I've written two books. Definition: An academic book chapter is a structured section of a scholarly book or edited volume that explores a specific theme, sub-argument, or case study in alignment with the book's overall objectives.

In another life, I would have been an academic. That was my career path, before my two strokes rendered academia inaccessible to me. That's why I wrote a book chapter on accessible literature, using accessible writing. Because the accessibility of my work has been my main priority. My work is deliberately designed to be read by disabled people like me, who are often excluded from academic and literary spaces.

Kobus and Charlotte made this process accessible and accommodating towards my disabilities. Something that is unfortunately rare. I always wanted to return to academia and now I have! In ways that are accessible to me, and accessible to other disabled people. "Moving the center" as the legendary Toni Morrison put it.

Seeing: "Dear Philomena," , Byenkya, my friend Paul Bourgeois', "Married Myself", "Marvel Method", and Uganda as cited sources; makes my soul glow! ✨

Being amongst the illustrious company of my fellow contributors and the wonderful editors, warms my heart.

Buy the book via the links in my bio! If cost is a prohibitive factor, DM me and I can send you more information about the book chapter. Join me in celebrating! 💃🏿🙌🏿✨

Join me in celebrating Michelle Joseph!!! 🎉🎊✨❤️

I met @wordswmichelle in 2017, at a writers meet up
organized by my publisher and our mutual friend Sheena Blake. Michelle and I connected immediately over a shared love of writing, reading & dissecting the process behind people we looked up to. We became friends and stayed in touch after I left Toronto in 2020. Michelle is one of many people who reaches out to me and my sibling @weena.bee when I'm flaring, to check in. I'm incredibly grateful for her friendship and love.

Michelle gave me one of my first ever interviews on her blog. Has interviewed me on her brilliant podcast twice (check out the podcast if you're reading this, it's sensational! Links in my bio)

Which is why I'm incredibly excited to share Michelle's debut book! I had imposter syndrome when Michelle selected me to be profiled in her book. Michelle told me:
"You are a changemaker. You are living Black History. You are an inspiration. Honestly, your story touched me a lot. You'll read about it in the book." It's a privilege to be witnessed by Michelle. I'd never thought of myself in the ways she sees me. I'm incredibly honoured to be featured alongside the illustrious changemakers profiled in the book.

There's a common thread between the people featured in the book. There are lessons shared that everyone can learn from. Michelle writes about how she uses these lessons. She's vulnerable and expresses her struggles alongside her triumphs.

Join me in celebrating and supporting Michelle. Buy the book via the links in my bio! Share and spread the word far and wide about this incredible book! Share your thoughts and lessons learned while reading!

This how our @etancomics editor Beserat was moving on them editorial check ins. Lethal but elite with the cuts and notes. Now although a lot of bits were left on the cutting floor, we ultimately ended up with a story that did everything we hoped it would. Huuge shoutout to him for being an incredible and invaluable source of direction on this project… (you know what’s coming)… whose kickstarter launches next month.
