I’ve become a sucker for small fans. This 8” all brass GE was a fun project and looks ADORABLE on my mantle. It looked like it had gotten mushed or dropped a couple of times in its 100+ year life, but it cleaned up quite nicely.

My prettiest baby finally found its home over the basement bar service window 🥹 I obsessively searched for this shade for months after spying it in various Faries catalogs from the early 1900’s and have been struggling to find a spot for it ever since I found it. I wanted a light over the service window but it’s tricky because the door slides up into the cavity, leaving no room for a fixture box. The surface mount ends up being the perfect solution and I picked the red and green wire on a whim and I really dig it.

This is an improvement I’ve been waiting a LONG time to make. I’ve always wanted to have the basement door be a half lite, it was just solid wood when we bought the house. I believe it originally had a half lite door and the weird five panel was a replacement.

The aim was to find a door with some neat glass, maybe chicken wire, maybe pebble? We started putting in pinwheel other places so then the answer became pinwheel! Finally a bunch of doors with pinwheel glass surfaced at one of the local salvage spots, it was the right width, just had to shave it down a little on the top and bottom and adjust the hinge placement. And now???? I get the sexiest light in my basement studio 😭

It’s turning into the summer of pedestal fans, and Truman is judging me for it 😂 Stacked lineup with the very cute lil 1930’s 10” GE 49x714 with creamy Quiet Blades, then the 1930’s Emerson Silver Swan 12” that I posted about recently, and last, my roadside find, a 16” Collins Cool Breeze with super cool blue blades that was really, really dirty. Oh! Also! It had a date of 1987 on the back, officially making all three of these fans older than me (1989 68.5”)🌈

Decided my lil ivory GE 8” was getting too dirty in the kitchen, and it turns out it fits perfectly on the wall of my studio! This was the second vintage fan I ever bought and it’s still one of my favorites.

My best Faries find was only $5. Found this diamond in a scrap bin, cleaned it up and rebuilt the socket. It now will serve as our reading light.

Got the oscillate on the Emerson Silver Swan to play a bit nicer~ this fan also definitely got knocked over in its life. I popped a big nasty dent out of the rear bullet cover today as well.

Glad I waited to do this bathroom as the last room because NOW I have the skills to really dial it in properly. I’d been hoping to find a proper porcelain flush lever in ANY color other than white. The white is too harsh and feels like an obvious replacement. I also have been trying to get as many of Standard’s 1930’s colors into my house as I can! Well I finally found one yesterday in Ivoire de Medici (not Fawn!) but the set screw was broken off and rusted on… I think the whole thing was salvaged from a toilet tank that was busted to bits cause there was no way someone took it off. Now~ I have a particular set of skills and I can get most anything that’s seized unstuck. After patiently soaking the flush lever, I was able to drill out the old set screw and free the handle 🎉 Not bad for $8 by @mulesuit
