Robot Workshop on mobile 📲 Start up screen added!

The full daily maintenance loop is working on mobile, the UI is getting cleaned up, and everything is starting to feel a lot more connected.

Still just a blockout, next time I show the game, I should finally have some of the new 3D assets making their way in 👀

The first actual 3D asset for Robot Workshop is done!

This one feels like a big shift for the project because I’m finally moving from sketches and systems into building the visual world of the game itself. The first robot head is modeled, textured, and ready to start testing in-game.

I’m going to keep developing the next robot parts from here, and I’m still using the concept sketches and feedback to shape what comes next. What do you think of the first head in 3D?

And out of the six concepts so far, which one would you want to see me build next?

Here's the why and how behind Robot Workshop 🤖

I've put in 15 work sessions so far, and the daily task loop and reward system are working nice. So I wanted to give a breakdown of what my process looks like, as a 3D artist building my first mobile game with no coding background.

I go into my approach, concepts and creative control, how I am using AI as a structured tool, and what I'm trying to get out of making Robot Workshop.

If you have any thoughts on the game, where it's at, my workflow, or anything your curious about, drop it below!

Two more Robot Workshop head concepts 🤖

These are 5 and 6, and I’m getting close to wrapping up the first round of robot-head drafts so I can move on to the rest of the body parts.

I’m trying to keep the designs different enough that the robots can feel like they came from the same world without all looking like variations of the same shape. Also remembering the requirements each one needs to have.

So, which one do you like more, 5 or 6? And if you have any reasons why, I’d love to hear it! 🧠

If you’ve been following the earlier concepts too, tell me your favorite out of all six heads so far.

Next I want to start exploring the other robot parts, and I’m also getting closer to building the first real 3D assets for the game, starting with the workbench and first robot head.

Still figuring out the visual style and direction, so the feedback is absolutely useful!

Daily Task 3: Signal Repair - Gotta fix the kink in the antenna!

Finished the foundational mechanics for the antenna, you will have to fix the kinks by finding the correct hidden positions to get the best signal.

The joints move in a fixed radius in 3D space, and the screen will have an interactive waveform to show your progress and completion. Every day it will reset to a new position you have to find, rewarded with bolts to put towards your robot.

This was the last daily task to put together for now, moving on to more concept art before I start modeling the robot parts you"ll be playing the game with!

Talking more about Robot Workshop 🤖

I’ve got three early minigames working now: cleaning rust and gunk, charging the battery, and tuning the signal antenna.

I’m showing how each one starts, how the camera moves into the interaction, and what the player actually does in each game.

The battery game is the one I’m still thinking about most. Kind of weak. What would make something like that feel more fun or satisfying to play?

I also finally started getting my YouTube set up for Robot Workshop and Munk Makes Games, so I’ll be posting these updates there too.

Quick Robot Workshop update 🤖

I’ve been testing the first prototypes for two of the minigames: cleaning rust and gunk off your robot, and a daily battery-charging game.

They’re still really early. Right now I’m focused on getting the core mechanics working before I start polishing how they look and feel.

I’m going to do a deeper breakdown of both minigames soon, including how I built them and the process/pipeline I’m using as the game comes together.

For the battery-charging game especially, I’m still exploring what the mechanic should become.

What would you actually want to do when charging your robot each day? Open to ideas!

Which one do you like more? Head 3 or 4? 🤖🤔

I'm sketching out a bunch of concept art for my game Robot Workshop, starting with a fundamental piece for the robots youll assemble!

I need help sifting through the junk and picking out the good bits. Feedback welcome 🙏 nothing concrete, more coming soon.

I need to go through a bunch of concept art for all the body parts youll be able to assemble together in Robot Workshop. This is the first step, nothing concrete!

Lots more to pick through.

Which one do you like more?

First sketches for Robot Workshop 🤖

I’m just getting quick ideas down right now and building up a bunch of different robot parts before I narrow anything down. These are the kinds of parts players will eventually be finding and using to build their robots.

I’m going to keep sharing a bunch more as I sketch them.

Which head do you like more, 1 or 2?

Introducing Munk Makes Games.

I’ve spent the last five years creating 3D work for games, collectibles, music videos, and branded projects. I’ve helped bring parts of other people’s games to life, but I’ve never taken a game of my own from prototype to release.

So I'm building Robot Workshop.

It’s a mobile game about repairing and collecting robot parts to build a robot that feels personal to the player.

I’m developing it in GDevelop, starting with mechanics first and documenting the process as I learn the development side and bring my experience in 3D art, character design, and collectibles into the game.

I’ll be sharing the systems, design decisions, mistakes, milestones, and eventually the full visual build as the project grows.

If you’re a game developer, artist, designer, gamer, or just enjoy watching an idea become something fun and playable, follow along the dedicated @munkmakesgames page.

I'm wondering, what sparks the most personality into a robot? The face, colors, or condition of its parts?

Anyways, this is where Munk Makes Games.
Starting with Robot Workshop.
