More than a Mural🫟

Dustin Hunt founded Muralmatics in 2018 after working as an arts educator in the public school system.

His work engages communities and leaders who are interested in transforming blank spaces into treasured places.

Dustin’s approach is uniquely collaborative and grounded in the principles and practices of youth and community development.

His projects have brought people and their stories to life throughout Michigan. And his low-key, yet professional approach keeps the focus on shared experience, not ego.

Muralmatics Offers

Mural Camps for Youth: Kids are designed to build confidence through creativity.

(NEW) Workplace Activations: Show appreciation to your team, collaborate across your company, and have some fun!

Interior and Exterior Commissions: Transform your space with a public art activation.

Open to Opportunities

Although based in Michigan, Dustin is open to opportunities across the Midwest. Let’s go. 🌎

Working Together

Dustin is available for solo and group commissions as well as his signature, collaborative painting experiences.

He has the experience to run an event and make sure everyone has fun and stays safe (while getting a little messy).

The first step is to reach out through the link in bio for a free consultation. Dustin is currently booking into 2027. 🌠 by @muralmatics

2000 square feet, 125 cans of spray paint, 100 colors, 15 gallons of primer, 25 students, 5 volunteers, 4 community-based organizations, 2 assistants, 2 photographers, 1 lead artist. Many hands make light work. This is what Muralmatics does best 😎😎😎

I loved working with these heart-centered folks to bring this project to life. ❤️🔥

It was important to this group that we command attention for this community art space and place of worship in a way that pulled people in and sparked their curiosity.

Thank you so much for the kind words @peppermintcreek_thr 🙏🏻

An absolutely beautiful and empowering evening, here at home for The Legacy of Magic! 🔥Witnessing the humility of “greatness” always impacts my heart. @magicjohnson Thank you for being you and never forgetting our “your” community, Lansing! 🙌🏾🥹Go Vikings! ❤️💙Go Spartans!💚🤍

Last night was about the Johnson Family. Salute to Mr. Earvin Johnson Sr & Mama Christine Johnson! My beautiful, sweet, loving, supportive and kind mama mentor/friend. Her faith and demonstration speaks volumes!

The @ymcaoflansing has impacted the lives of many families. Their legacy continues. They are expanding to further impact families in Lansing. Outdoor courts, basketball, pickleball, volleyball and much more. Named: The Earvin Magic Johnson YMCA. With a mural of The Johnson Family🥹😭 by @muralmatics Pure Dopeness!🔥

What a night and moment to be a part of. More shares to come. There were so many impactful moments! Empowering. Be Great! #magicjohnson #lansingmichigan #legacy #legacyofmagic #lifestyleblogger taken in Breslin Center - Michigan State Univ. by @muralmatics

Getting to capture this collaboration between @muralmatics @readmuskegon and @lionsandrabbits, I walked away with 2 big takeaways for artists. 🎨🖌️

1) Are the community members collaborators or recipients?

By inviting community into collaboration, they become a part of the work instead of recipients of the work. Those collaborations build ownership, and that ownership creates a community that will champion and protect your work long after the project is done.

For this reason, I was not surprised to see that many of the folks who helped paint these segmented canvases also came back to support during the launch event.

2) Consider how your work will interact with the space.

Bringing a big mural into a narrow hallway can be a nightmare scenario, both for the artist and the photographer. Dustin (the artist) looked at the building blueprint, noticed the windows lining the hallway, and turned those windows into frames, intentionally building an interactive element into the work itself.

Outside of a narrow hallway, how can your work make use of angles, distance, light, technology, the sun, or even temperature to change the way a viewer interacts with the work, or the way the work interacts with the space? Now you’re not just creating “aww” moments through beautiful art. You’re also building in an opportunity for play, creating those “ahhh-haaa” moments where someone says, “I need to show this to someone.” taken in Read Muskegon by @muralmatics

Congratulations to Read Muskegon on the grand opening of their new Literacy Center that took place earlier this week!

We’re proud to have supported this project by helping bring artist, Dustin Hunt into the process. His mural work helps create a welcoming and inspiring space for the community.
Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this vision to life 😊

@muralmatics asked me to get involved in this project a couple years ago. I was tasked to create reference portraits for a series of murals. When him and the team were finishing up one of them I stopped by to see the process first hand. It’s really incredible to see such a large scale piece of art! taken in Lansing, Michigan by @muralmatics

It’s a rare opportunity to have portraits you took turned into a massive mural.

I was asked to help @muralmatics acquire reference images to create this one of a kind mural of Jazmin and Paul, what an honor.

It is absolutely incredible to see this mural in person between the use of vibrant color and sheer scale, it’s a beautiful thing!

You can check out more in the full project on @muralmatics page.

Side note I recently hit the books hard and earned my FAA commercial unmanned pilots certification, look forward to more aerial footage mixed in here and there. taken in Lansing, Michigan by @muralmatics

✨ The mural installation at the Van Belkum Branch is officially underway!

This Saturday, meet the artist, Dustin Hunt, and enjoy a Paint-by-Numbers activity hosted by Lions & Rabbits, cookies from Lucy’s Café, face painting, and more! Kids too young to help paint the mural will be invited to contribute to a separate community art piece that will hang inside the branch.
