POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
On October 14, 2026, at approximately 1:49 p.m., our Communications Center received multiple 911 calls regarding a person experiencing a mental health crisis on the I-15 Freeway bridge at Kalmia Street. The person was sitting on the edge of the bridge, and there were concerns for their safety.

As officers were responding, a community member had already stopped to talk with the person and appeared to be building a connection with them. When officers arrived, the community member stepped in and helped keep the person from going over the edge by grabbing onto them.

Officers continued working to de-escalate the situation and safely detained the person so they could receive the mental health care they needed. The Good Samaritan then left the scene.

We often never know the impact a simple act of kindness can have. This individual took the time to stop, show compassion, and help someone during what may have been one of the most difficult moments of their life.

This is what we mean when we say “Partners with Our Community.” Law enforcement can’t be everywhere at once, and this individual’s willingness to stop and help may have saved a life.

If the person who helped ends up reading this post, we’d like the opportunity to express our appreciation. You can contact Captain Jeremy Durrant at (951) 461-6317 or jdurrant@murrietaca.gov.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. by @murrietapd

Over the past eight days, we’ve highlighted the new additions to Murrieta Municipal Code 10.55 and explained what they mean for e-bike riders, parents, and our community. But these updates are about more than rules and enforcement.
They are about safety - and the numbers show why these changes matter.

Over the past two years, MPD has received 1,369 e-bike related complaints.
Over the past year, MPD has responded to 66 e-bike related collisions.

As e-bikes and other electric-powered devices have become more common on our streets, sidewalks, and trails, we have also seen the consequences that can come with excessive speed, modified bikes, distracted riding, reckless behavior, and inexperienced riders.

The updated ordinance is designed to create clearer expectations, better educate riders and parents, and give officers additional tools to address unsafe behavior before it results in a serious collision or injury.

Our goal is not simply to issue citations. Our goal is to prevent crashes, reduce injuries, protect pedestrians, and help every rider get home safely. Whether you ride an e-bike, have a child who does, or simply share the road and sidewalks with them, we all have a role in keeping Murrieta safe. by @murrietapd

E-BIKE ORDINANCE UPDATE - DAY 8
The updated Murrieta Municipal Code 10.55 gives the City additional tools to protect pedestrians in crowded areas. The City Manager may designate high-pedestrian areas as Pedestrian Priority Zones.
Within these designated areas:
• Bicycles and e-conveyances may not be operated
• Riders must dismount and walk within 500 feet of the designated zone
The City may also prohibit bicycles and e-conveyances at City-permitted events when appropriate signage is posted. This may include events such as: Festivals, Farmers markets, Parades, & Concerts
When crowds are heavy, pedestrian safety comes first. by @murrietapd

Please join us in congratulating Communications Manager Casey Bostrom on her retirement after 33 years of service in law enforcement!

Casey began her career in 1993 as a dispatcher with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. In 2002, she was promoted to Dispatch Supervisor, a role she held for 18 years. During that time, she took on a specialized technical assignment supporting major technology projects, including the rollout of a new 911 system. She also provided training for dispatch staff, wrote RFP specifications for the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, and served as Administrative Supervisor for 80 employees.

For 28 years, from 1998 to 2026, Casey was also an instructor at the Ben Clark Training Center, teaching Leadership & Ethics and Workplace & Interpersonal Communication to many public safety professionals. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from California Baptist University.

In 2020, Casey joined the Murrieta Police Department as our Communications Manager, and she arrived just in time for some of the hardest years our Communications Center has faced. Shortly after she started, she led the center through the COVID-19 pandemic and a ransomware attack. During her tenure, she also:
🔹 Oversaw the added responsibility of dispatching for the Menifee Police Department
🔹 Implemented Text-to-911
🔹 Moved to a cloud-based computer aided dispatch (CAD) system
🔹 Earned ACE (Accredited Center of Excellence) accreditation for Murrieta Fire

Casey leaves the Communications Center far stronger than she found it. It is fully staffed and has an outstanding supervisor team ready to carry her work forward.

Casey, thank you for more than three decades of answering the call and for everything you’ve done for our team and our community. We wish you a happy and well-earned retirement! by @murrietapd

E-BIKE ORDINANCE UPDATE - DAY 7
The updated Murrieta Municipal Code 10.55 addresses cell phone and electronic device use while operating a bicycle or e-conveyance.
Riders may not operate while holding and actively using a cell phone or other electronic communication device.
There are limited exceptions, including:
• Making an emergency call
• Using a properly mounted device
• Using hands-free or voice-activated features
• Using the device while stopped and no longer actively operating the bicycle or e-conveyance
Just like driving a vehicle, riding safely requires your attention. A text, video, or notification can wait. by @murrietapd

Wet roads, reduced visibility, and slippery conditions can turn an ordinary drive into a dangerous one.

🚗 SLOW DOWN: Wet roads mean longer stopping distances. Give yourself extra time to reach your destination. #pumpthebrakes

💡 LIGHTS ON: California law requires headlights when your windshield wipers are in continuous use due to weather conditions. #lightscameraaction

📵 STAY ALERT: Put the phone down, keep both hands on the wheel, and pay attention to changing road conditions. #wakeywakey

↔️ KEEP YOUR DISTANCE: Leave extra space between your vehicle and the one ahead.

🌊 TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN: Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. You never know how deep the water is or whether the road underneath has washed away. #backitupterry

⚠️ WATCH FOR PUDDLES: Standing water can cause hydroplaning and loss of vehicle control. #ispywithmylittleeye

☔ Remember: No destination is worth risking your life. Slow down, stay alert, and arrive safely!

Stay safe, Murrieta! 💙 by @murrietapd

E-BIKE ORDINANCE UPDATE - DAY 6
The updated Murrieta Municipal Code 10.55 establishes clear speed limits for e-bikes and other regulated mobility devices.
Riders must always travel at a reasonable and prudent speed based on traffic, visibility, pedestrians, road conditions, and the surrounding environment.
Maximum speeds include:
• 28 mph on public highways, trails, paths, parks, and other public property
• 20 mph on bicycle paths and bicycle trails
• 10 mph on sidewalks
• 5 mph on sidewalks when pedestrians are present
When riding on roadways or in bike lanes, riders must travel in the same direction as vehicle traffic.
This same-direction requirement also generally applies to sidewalks less than eight feet wide, subject to exceptions contained in the ordinance.
Passengers are only permitted when the bicycle or e-conveyance is specifically designed to carry more than one person. Additional safety requirements also apply when carrying a child who is 4 years old or younger or weighs 40 pounds or less.
Speed limits are maximums - conditions may require you to ride even slower. by @murrietapd

Agitator sleeves and aluminum water bowls…these are a few of this pup’s favorite things.

Meet Fender, a #bigthiccboi with a penchant for chasing bad guys and chewing inanimate objects…like his kennel. His human partner, Ofc. Calise, describes him as a “super social” dog that enjoys being a “big goof ball.”

Despite his toothy indiscretions, Fender is a consummate working pup, boasting an uncanny ability to get dialed in when it’s time to work. Comfortable around his uniformed, bipedal partners, Fender is described as focused and motivated which is nice, when you’re talking about a barrel-chested, 80-pound German Shepherd. #pleasebefocused

Ofc. Calise and Fender have been together for just over a year.

Over the coming weeks, we intend to introduce you to the rest of our K-9 team. And be sure to mark off February 13, 2027for the next MPD K-9 Trials! @mpoak9foundation by @murrietapd
