i have learned to be open to the portals your ancestors leave for you. they rarely arrive the way you imagined. - sac More than 20 years ago, I didn’t know this would be my life’s work. I only knew there was a spark I couldn’t ignore. I didn’t know when it would take shape or what it would ask of me, only that it would require me to keep on keeping on Cultural work is a practice of devotion. It asks for love, care, study, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to our people. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t choose this work, even when it is difficult. I cannot turn my back on what has been entrusted to me or on the young people, comrades, and communities who continue to shape my becoming. We are stewards. I carry many North Stars with me>>my mother, Sharon Christmas, Mama Maria Broom, Mama Rashida , Mama Kay, Mama Kibibi , Joyce J. Scott, Valerie Maynard, Ella Baker, Claudia Jones, Assata Shakur, Elaine Brown, June Jordan, Ericka Huggins, and Toni Cade Bambara..whose lives remind me that liberation is a daily practice of sowing…. This is #BlackAugust and beyond. Study. Organize. Build. Care for one another. If you believe in this work, keep us in mind. Support Muse 360, join our community, and help us continue investing in the next generation through the Kenan Amori Book Fund Sow a seed. Liberate a mind. Donate. Organize. Stay in the work. by @muse.360
“You can generally tell what processes a man’s mind has gone through by what he’s studied, observed.” — George L. Jackson, Blood in My Eye ❤️🖤💚 On the first day of Black August, we launch the Kenan Amori Book Fund (KABF) in honor of Malcolm “Kenan Amori” Alexander, musician, dreamer, lifelong learner, and New Generation Scholars alum. Black August honors the legacy of freedom fighters, including George L. Jackson, whose writings on political education, self-determination, and revolutionary practice continue to shape how we at Muse 360 anchor our youth in resistance. Kenan understood that political education is a lifelong practice. His journey through books, study, and global learning shaped how he moved through the world. Today, we carry that commitment forward. The Kenan Amori Book Fund places FREE books on African history, political education, Black diasporic studies, arts, and culture into the hands of young people ages 14–24, while helping families build home libraries rooted in critical inquiry, cultural memory, and self-determination. Knowledge should never be a privilege. It is part of our collective responsibility to ensure that every young person has access to the tools to study, question, imagine, and transform the world around them. 🔘🔘🔘 Join this charge. Make a donation to the Kenan Amori Book Fund and help us place books directly into the hands and homes of Baltimore’s young people. No amount is too small every contribution expands access to knowledge and helps build the next generation of thinkers, artists, researchers, organizers, and cultural workers. Donate today. “I unlock the present and create my future.” — Malcolm “Kenan Amori” Alexander In 2016, Malcolm traveled to Havana, Cuba through the @newgenerationscholars Global Studies Program, during our first partnership with the @africandiasporaalliance African Diaspora Alliance. Access to global study, political education, and books expanded his mind and planted seeds that would shape his voice as an artist. Malcolm once shared that he learned to “take the problems and oppression as a tool to go against the system and everything that’s holding us down.” His music became a reflection of that practice. Today, we honor his legacy through the **Kenan Amori Book Fund**, placing **FREE books** on political education, Black studies, arts, culture, and movement history into the hands of the next generation. Help us continue the journey that helped shape Kenan. No amount is too small. What does it mean to build across generations? What responsibilities do we have to one another? And, most importantly, who is caring for our children? Intergenerational community is essential to the continuity of Black life. At a time when so much is working against our ability to gather, remember, and care for one another, revisiting Voices of the Gods Film alongside our founder Sharayna Ashanti Christmas’s short film A Birth of Remembrance brings us back to a place of inquiry in the pursuit to persevere. In this gathering, we are reminded that ritual, devotion, and collective commitment are essential to building restorative communities. They are part of how we sustain relational ancestral knowledge and develop our own ways of caring for one another. But that work must include our children. We return to Toni Cade Bambara’s reminder that one way to make revolution irresistible is to be responsible to the children, maintaining a sense of continuity with the past. Her words ask us to consider what kind of future we are making possible if young people are not a part of your present. That responsibility is not abstract, it is what it is. Grateful to have shared this screening , conversation & fellowship with director Al Santana , photographer Marilyn Nance @marilyn.nance , and Baba John. Thank you to everyone who made this gathering possible. With appreciation to the co-presenters, Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (@CCCADI), our screening partner, SNF Parkway Theatre (@mdffparkway), and associate programmer Jenné Afiya Matthews (@left_thigh) for bringing this program together. Great afternoon at the @muse.360 garden! Our first candidate for presidency joined us and we made sure the plants were well watered, certain plants trimmed so that others could thrive, and checked to see the progress of growth! Always so beautiful and never a dull time! 🌱🧡💙🐻 #growinghealth #foodismedicine #urbanfarming #collaboration #morganstateuniversity by @muse.360
Link in bio! We going 🆙 Saturday. So appreciative to be in community with mines. Big thanks to @muse.360 @raynqueen two door coupe (2024) my first ever short film, showcases a night in the life of a homeless teenager after school hours. I have many friends and family who are apart of the educational system, and they come in direct contact with children who have issues that go far beyond the classroom. I’d really love for these same educators to come and share their perspectives on how they’re assisting these children with navigating through such triviality, as well as interacting with all of the MAJOR activations @muse.360 will be having in the same day. Such as, From 10-11 AM — Analog Film Photography + Film Development with Chrys Davis @dolo_foto 11 AM-12 PM — Storyboarding + Digital Filmmaking/Photography with Sha-Shonna Rogers @sheeggo And again, two short film screenings by my sisters @sheeggo @tajeewaji Followed by an extensive talkback! “The stuff you love was shaped, if not designed, by us.” — Greg Tate From moments in front of Greg Tate Horus in Harlem by Brett Cook, along the park fencing of St. Nicholas Park, to the revisited movement of Glenn Ligon’s ME/WE: Give Us a Poem at the Studio Museum in Harlem, to experiencing Taj Posce’s solo exhibition Looking Up From Here at DIMIN NY. Our young people moving through the world not as spectators, not as subjects to be extracted from, but as inheritors, interpreters, witnesses, makers , carrying memory forward and making themselves at home inside the cultural continuum. Check out our latest Substack post, “Remembering Sisterhood: Lessons in Affective Footholds: Reflections on ‘What’s the Plan?// Toni Cade Bambara in Praxis Weekend.”💥 Led by Muse 360 Founding Director and BWCWa co-founder Sharayna Ashanti Christmas, BWCWa partnered with LifexCode: Digital Humanities Against Enclosure, African Diaspora Alliance, and Black Feminist Future to develop and implement a weekend of celebration grounded in the 16 Lessons explored in the documentary film, TCB — The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing (2025, 105 min).  What’s The Plan?” // Toni Cade Bambara in Praxis Weekend: Lessons in Care, Sisterhood, and Cultural Work, which took place April 10th and 11th, commemorated the life, work, and political imagination of Toni Cade Bambara through programming at Morgan State University, the 360 House, Blue Light Junction, and other community hubs to reach diverse audiences and ensure accessibility. The affective footholds we name are in the tradition of the women Toni Cade Bambara identifies in her 1978 University of Iowa speech, “Black Women as a Political Force,” the women or organizations who “pump up the heart of the Sisters who have fallen by the wayside.” The weekend brought together healers, poets, cultural workers, educators, and the ones community names in the role to experience TCB’s praxis through dialogue, zine-making, film, study, and the collective praxis of sisterhood. We offer special thanks to the many hands who supported this weekend, including Dr. Jessica Marie Johnson; Moriah Ray; Nia June; Julia Mallory; Louis Massiah; Angela Carroll; Jenné Afiya; Jen White-Johnson; Tatiana Eshelman; Blue Light Junction; the Parkway Theatre; Impact Hub Baltimore; the James E. Lewis Museum of Art, Morgan State University; and Charm City Cultural Cultivation. Check out the full post using the link in bio🙌🏽🖤 You can complete our interest form too! by @muse.360
